Raising social involvement, self awareness and self improvement topics, because our communities are the sum of our personal beliefs, behaviors, action or inaction. Only "we" can improve our family, work place, school, city, country, etc.
This certainly leaves Republicans at a loss. The first, and reflexive response, was to say the matter should be left to the states. I don't think their pro life base will accept that.
Scott Jensen has been saying that abortion isn't an issue in Minnesota because of a long ago case on the matter. To start with, I am boggled by this. If Dobbs stands for anything, its that ancient cases don't matter. Courts can overturn precedents, even well settled ones, whenever they want. Relying on Roe as a protection for rights, is now seen as a major mistake, one that Jensen is asking us to repeat.
But I would also add that where there is a conflict between state and federal law, under the supremacy clause of the U.S. Constitution controls. This is true even if the law is the state constitution. That assumes the federal law is constitutional.
So, using GOP logic, if a national abortion ban gets passed, would it be OK for blue state governors to ship unwanted babies to Texas and Florida and drop a busload of them off at a firehouse?
Probably, however I think adults who knowingly crossed the US border without prior approval are very different from an infant.
They asked for "Sanctuary"... Might as well send them to places who officially support it. :-O
The Martha's Vineyard drop off was a classic... I was just there touring in June and they really have nothing but tourist stores and rich people... Maybe the wealthy DEMs opened their houses to their new guests? :-)
"It’s a place where 1 in 6 year-round residents is a registered user of the Island Food Pantry and one-third of schoolchildren receive free or reduced-price lunch."

ReplyDeleteBut it sure does not look like it is going happen.
