It is a fascinating question. For me, the secondary issues is how lawyers could be persuaded to give such obviously bad advice.

Why do people want candidates who get fewer votes to win elections? When my guy loses, it wouldn't occur to me that he should somehow take office anyway, and I can't imagine not opposing that.
