Obama's Gun Control Action

A gift from Lauie
Obama's Emotional Speech on Gun Control
As I am sure you can predict I am a strong supporter of greater gun safety measures, such as Obama has just taken and more that would probably require congressional or state legislative action, I definitely don't expect much else to be done and have not put much thought into what laws/regulations should be passed. I do favor banning machine guns and assault rifles.

Obama's Overblown Moves on Gun Control
Rip up the Second Amendment? Save thousands of lives? Despite the hype and the dread, the president’s new policies seem too limited to have much effect.
Personally I am indifferent to this lame attempt by Obama that apparently accomplishes little to nothing to stop the attacks he was crying over.  Thoughts?

  1. I see nothing wrong with what the President did. Sure, it's not going to be hugely impactful, but I applaud him for taking what steps he can while the Republican Congress cashes their NRA checks.

  2. Obama once again makes a powerful political "what a good boy am I" speech to unlawfully pursue the wrong solution to the wrong problem. Congress acted in 2013, refusing to do what Obama wants, but of course His Highness won't take no for an answer. Especially when he has his facts bass-ackwards. Gun violence is now half what it was 20 years ago, when states began permitting concealed carry. And those places with the strongest gun control, like DC, Chicago and New York, have the highest murder rates.
Most criminals do NOT buy their guns at gun shows, or through any legal means. Every mass shooting that has taken place would have been prevented had the criminal paid any attention to existing gun laws (and the laws against murder). Gun laws inconvenience the law-abiding, not the law-breaking. Lots more at:

  3. It takes a special brand of right-wing conservative to think that any of this rises to the level of "inconvenience".

  4. Really? Having to obtain and pay for a federal license, run detailed background checks and file the reports, just to sell your old flintlock to your neighbor for $20, isn't even an inconvenience? How about a total waste of time and effort? Meanwhile, the guy who's going to buy a hot "piece" from a friendly gang-banger isn't inconvenienced in the least. That's not the right-wing conservative view. That's just the facts. That it doesn't match Obama's phantasmagorical worldview is HIS problem.

  5. And let us be clear. What Obama is trying to do is clearly contrary to law, but what he is saying he is doing is exactly what the law says now. So is he lying about what he is trying to do, or lying about what he is actually doing? Or is it just grandstanding with no substance whatsoever? I'm rather favoring the latter explanation, but the confusion he creates may cause more problems than saying nothing at all.

  6. maybe you might shed a tear too, if you met with the parents who had their 6 year old kids gunned down in school. I can imagine how difficult it must be for Obama to be be so powerless in trying to reduce the level of gun violence in this country. Maybe you are ok with 32,000 people killed by guns each year. I like to have a leader with some heart.

  7. I have no problem him tearing up... It seems natural given the topic.

  8. about "Personally I am indifferent to this lame attempt by Obama that apparently accomplishes little to nothing to stop the attacks he was crying over. "

What would you have Obama do? do more or do nothing? Just resign himself with the rest of us that 32,000 gun deaths a year is just part of living in America. Also, your comment about his crying still sounds like ridicule to me.

At least he is bringing the isuue into the news for a few days again.
btw, what do you think of this Cruz campaign ad.
Ted Cruz Knows What His Followers Want

I know both sides make attack ads but I don't think the dems stoop as low in thier misinformation and disrespect and offensiveness of their ads.

Why do you hate America? The Constitution basically requires that the militia be well-regulated.

  10. What would I have Obama do? How about shut up about things he knows nothing about? Violent gun crime is not on the increase, it's going down. Mass shootings aren't up, they're down, and have you noticed, they're all in gun-free zones? Why does Obama's "gun free" Chicago have one of the worse homicide rates in the country? Why doesn't one of these crazies try to shoot up a gun show, where all of them supposedly buy their guns (but statistics say almost never do)? What is Obama's initiative, called the "Ferguson effect," doing to reduce crime? The assault weapons ban, the pride of gun-grabbers, expired, and the number of them used in violent crimes remained a tiny 1.4%. Obama even admits that these new measures won't stop any of the recent horrors, so what's the point? If he wants to shed a tear, it should be for the death of common sense.
