Heck, if we just went back to the overblown Bush budget of 2008, the deficit this year would be almost eliminated. Surely there aren't any essential government services that we are funding now, but not in 2008?

DeMint is sounding a bit like Krugman who also doesn't see raising taxes as any sort of solution to our current economic problems.

Look at the increase in government spending and it is clear that it is unsustainable, and has been for some time. The only way to curb unsustainable spending growth is to quit the stupid overspending.

I think DeMint supports cuts, whereas Krugman seems to be pro-spending, debt and taxes.
J, Get logged in to your google account and you won't need to fill in those funny words...
Krugman is no big advocate of raising taxers in a time of recession. I think his priority is getting people back to work. In terms of household economics when someone loses a job, what's the priority? Paying the credit card bill, or getting another job? Even many Republicans who think they are against Krugman's ideas are in favor of dishonoring America's debt.

Dishonoring which debt? The Supreme Court has ruled that Social Security and Medicare obligations can legally be reduced at anytime. (ie they are not debt)
And "extended unemployment benefits" are not a debt that has to be paid. Nor is TANFF or the other welfare expenditures. Or even many of the military expenditures.
So what debt are you focused on?
