CNN Money Working class whites blame Washington, want more help
Now it would be hard to make this up...
And maybe that is why many of them support Trump...
I wonder if they blame the government as they are filling their Walmart carts up with foreign products and then push it out to their Hyundai...
Thoughts?

I will never understand how you can read about the people interviewed for the story and have no empathy for them. I found the story depressing, for all the people who wanted to get education to get ahead, both those who took on a lot of debt and those who were reluctant to take on large debt.
I think the govt should do more to help people with the cost of education, restricting the aid to quality programs that are likely to lead to a job.
Laurie,
I feel empathy for them (Paul), that does not make me feel the immediate need to take money form others (Peter) to give it to them. (Paul)
Personally I think they are saying that we should apply a very large import duty on foreign developed / built products so that the American consumers start supporting the American workers again. Are you ready for a $10,000 import tax on your next Prius, just so that a Volt is cost competitive?
Do you feel enough empathy to be willing to pay that out of your pocket?
"The government is not putting enough emphasis on keeping jobs in America for American people," said Olah, who assembled Ford trucks in Virginia for 13 years before the plant relocated closer to Detroit. "We should get more help for educated people to go to work."
They are also saying that they are tired of 11,000,000 illegal workers keeping downward pressure on wages in America. Do you feel for the American working class enough to deport anyone who is not supposed to be here?
My point is that what America needs is more manufacturing jobs that are a good fit for many low academic capability people. Exactly how many economics, criminal justice, etc majors do you think we need in America if we don't have a strong manufacturing base (ie high value add jobs)... And many people just don't enjoy the tedium of office life, emails, etc.
OK, then, how are you going to create manufacturing jobs? What specific policies should we pursue to bring manufacturing back?
Unfortunately this is something that needs to be chosen by the American citizens / consumers...
Do we want to maintain a high cost country? (ie big government, lots of regulations, lots of welfare, higher government mandated wages, high taxes, etc)
Do we want to buy our products and services at higher prices to pay for this or not?
To insist on a "high cost" country while spending all our money on products and services developed and built in "lower cost" countries is self defeating.
I'm asking for your opinion. If you had the power, what would you do?
If I had the power I would snap my fingers and everyone who:
- complains about the wages being too low in America
- complains that unions in the Private sector are too weak
- complains that companies are moving jobs overseas
- recommends more government, taxes and laws as the solution
would be required to:
- buy their products or services from strong Union States where taxation and regulation are high.
- support deporting all illegal workers who undercut legal working Americans
- support a total revamp of our Public Education system to ensure compensation based on level of positions challenge and their performance.
- support holding Parents accountable for feeding, clothing, teaching, etc their children.
Now I think this would be problem for the Subaru loving person who talks on their Samsung phone as they drive between the Black Lives Matter, New Immigration Policy, and Nurse's strike rallies.
Oh I forgot, they stopped by the $15/hr rally after swinging by the stop the copper nickel mine protest.
And after a long day... They stop to wonder why is it that greedy American companies like Ford, General Electric and Apple keep sending jobs to other countries... And why foreign companies like Lenova, Fiat, Haier, etc have the money to buy major American corporations. :-)
