It is unfortunate citizens voted these nut cases into office.
And it may get worse...
Raising social involvement, self awareness and self improvement topics, because our communities are the sum of our personal beliefs, behaviors, action or inaction. Only "we" can improve our family, work place, school, city, country, etc.

The problem is that we don't have a parliamentary system. In such a system, if the legislative body can't organize itself, the solution is to call an election. Because of our fixed term system, we can't have an election until November of next year. While in theory, it is possible we might have a speaker at some point and have some sort of organization before then, in practice we may have to do without a congress until 2025.

I am pretty sure a government shutdown will force a solution...
I mean the DEMs could have supported McCarthy, but they chose to not...
Without a Congress, the checks and balances system has to deliver a solution to the possibility of a government shutdown. My suggestion is that we pay people in scrip that is indistinguishable from regular currency.
In any event, we have to respect the choice of voters who chose divided government. Sometimes, in our system, divided government doesn't work, and maybe that's what the voters wanted.

If "working" means continually raising taxes and spending more...
Then many probably prefer it to not work... :-)
I understand. Many would prefer us not to have a government which spends money and imposes taxes for the money it spends. And that's a discussion we aren't having and maybe should have.

One way to deal with our problems is to build a wall around them. We are talking about an actual physical wall where our border is concerned but also on the table are other barriers, trade barriers for one.
If we do make the decision to have our poli cy choice determined by budgetary considerations, one way to implement that is to build walls. We pull back our military to our borders. We cut off trade with the outside world. We implement price controls in crucial areas, particularly health care. These are radical prooposals and not without risk, but there are upsides to them as well. Why not explore them and decide if they make sense for America in this 21st century?

Some taxes and spending is good...
However there is likely a point where more taxes and spending are not so good.
We need to decide what kind of society we can afford. Or that we are willing to spend money on.

Who is that "WE"?
I think of we as those of us who do want to have a serious discussion of government finance issues.
