RTTT: Counterpoints

I was going to stick with the performance and compensation theme, but this was too good to pass up.

A woman named Karen Stout in the Star Tribune is stating that Obama is bullying the Educators to make them do things that will not work, while 281 Exposed is stating that Obama is caving to the Educational Mafia...

I just found the irony amusing... Maybe I am just tired... Thoughts ?

Here is a comment I left over at 281 Exposed, however it is still being "moderated"... So I'll post it here also.

"Does this mean that you believe all Unions are bad? No matter what they support?

From my viewpoint, it would be advantageous and simplify things greatly if organized labor in the state is open to reform, pay for performance, etc. That is unless you are planning to overthrow the entrenched system. Which is unlikely in the short term.

Whereas if organized labor is staunchly resisting the changes, you are pretty sure the changes will not happen… And if they do, it will be merely lip service.

I hope those Unions are sincerely looking forward to helping improve their respective school systems. Only time will tell."

What do you think? Is Obama caving or bullying?

A smart union had better realize that the times, they are a changing. NYC for example is finally closing its rubber rooms, the union agreeing to expedited processing of poor performers.

With enrollments dropping, I suspect there is pressure from within, the good ones knowing that getting rid of the bad ones means job security.
