MN Tax Cuts

So I have been holding onto my taxes for 2 reasons:
  1. I owe money to the Feds and State, so why pay early...
  2. I hope that soon I will owe less to the State...
I know it is probably wishful thinking, but where there is life there can be hope.

Well it looks like the Senate is finally ready to take some action.  Though they apparently want to keep more than the Reps and Governor did.  Of course that may be because they are not up for election this fall...

So what do you think of this situation?

I have seen taxes ADDED retroactively, but I've never seen them reduced retroactively, certainly not to last year, the taxes you will pay on April 15. I only wait because I can buy Turbotax cheap about April 10th.

My only joy/fugue about the current news is imagining whether the DFL gets clobbered for raising taxes too high last year, or rewarded for cutting them this year.

CBS Tax Cuts

"Without counting the amount set aside for the reserve funds, the Legislature will have designated about half of the state’s surplus. Lawmakers have about two months before the session’s adjournment to figure out what to do with the rest."

Since the Democrats were hesitant to give the whole amount back to us "over charged" tax payers... I wonder what they will choose to do with it...

I posted this loaded question 3 times at MP. Unfortunately it must have been deemed to politically incorrect.

Why wouldn't the DFL address the marriage penalty? Maybe they don't support traditional marriage after all.

Thought I posted about this, but the Dept of Revenue has asked Minnesotans to hold off until April 3 before filing taxes, to get the new rates, etc.

Yes, I talked to my accountant and she said they don't even know for sure which forms are changing...
