I went looking for news on how negotiations are progressing with regard to the "Debt Ceiling" and "Spending Cuts". And guess what... All I find is this pointless gun control discussion !!!
Now I am not saying that it is not an important topic, but good God it is like straightening the deck chairs on the Titanic after it hit the iceberg. What's the point of "controlling guns" if the country is in financial turmoil??? And what's the hurry, millions and millions of guns are already in the hands of people who may be insane, what's the hurry to change the laws.
Let's get or keep these potential maniacs happy and employed so they are less angry and depressed. (ie guns don't kill people, people kill people...) Tabling this discussion for 2 months while we solve the urgent fiscal issues will make NO measureable difference.
It seems we need to spend a bit more time in quadrant 1 and then start working in quadrant 2 after this latest financial crisis is over. Wiki First Things First by Covey
Or is this an intentional political move by Obama to distract us from his ineptness at getting a deal made on the budget and debt ceiling?
Seems like it to me. Thoughts?

Exactly the same as it would be if the country weren't in turmoil. And it's important to remember that the country isn't in turmoil at all. There are no lines at banks, Byerly's still accepts cash. What we are seeing here is a manufactured crisis artificially created by a set of idiots sent to Congress by villages who thought they would be better off without them.

I thought it is a manufactured crisis by all idiot politicians that can not align spending and revenues to run the country on a balanced budget.
Continually raising the credit limit on one's cards doesn't solve the problem for American families and it sure won't solve the problem for the USA.
I thought it is a manufactured crisis by all idiot politicians that can not align spending and revenues to run the country on a balanced budget.
Yes, the very ones,

In any event, the fact that our children are being murdered in our schools and in the streets is vastly more important that any crisis Congress manufactures or is capable of manufacturing.

Seems those schools should have better security systems and personnel. And our government should be enforcing the laws and controls that are on the books rather than creating new ones that will not be enforced...
Yeah. I am happy you agree that it is foolish of those Democrats to keep spending more than the revenues available.
Seems those schools should have better security systems and personnel.
Sure, but let's remember that what happened in Newtown is very atypical of the gun violence to which our children are subjected to every day.

I am thinking gun violence affecting children is pretty low relative to sexual, physical, psychological, neglect, drug usage and the other abuses that no one is talking about.
The reality is that Obama is playing the crowd and distracting them from the BIG immediate problem that he seems unable to resolve.
As I said, the guns are out there already and 2 months of delay on gun control will not change a thing. But 2 months of delay on the budget/debt won't work out so well.
I am thinking gun violence affecting children is pretty low relative to sexual, physical, psychological, neglect, drug usage and the other abuses that no one is talking about.
But it's pretty in comparison to what a decent society should tolerate.

The problem with our very free society..
People are free to do crazy and in this case very insane things.
Being more of a Libertarian, I prefer it this way.
Hiram,
Would you put yourslef near Ghandi on this chart? Just curious where you see yourself in this context.

I think the test said I landed somewhere between Reagan and Clinton...
The good news. Someone is talking about the 800 Lb gorilla in the corner. GOP Deficit Reduction Discussions
The bad news is that the President is apparently thinking spending about $1 TRILLION more than revenues is OK. What is that man thinking?
Not a big Ghandi guy. Didn't much care for the movie.

Wow, turns out I am a "conservative libertarian." As for the gun debate, it's all kabuki theater, with a little magic show thrown in. "just watch my left hand...."

How in the world did a pro-life anti-gay marriage guy make it into the Libertarian camp?
Seems you should be more on the Governmental control side. How do you feel about legalizing pot and prostitution?

Now where do you think your views are relative to Gandhi on the chart?
This is kind of funny and not politically correct.
10 Signs You May Not be A Libertarian
Hey, it's your survey; all I did was report the results. I don't know that I would trust the daily Kos to define what a libertarian was or was not, either. As near as I can tell, that definition (and apparently yours) more closely matches my definition of "libertine" coupled with the nuttier portions of the Ron Paul agenda. My definition is more like the maximum REASONABLE individual liberty, coupled with full responsibility. As for the rest, I am conservative simply because it is the practical approach to most problems.

I'm not arguing... I just thought it was ironic that the survey identified someone who wants so much government control and church/state alignment as a Libertarian. Their survey may need some adjustment.
This is an interesting concept: "maximum REASONABLE individual liberty". I have to give it some thought and it will probably become a post soon.
