Give To The Max Day 14Nov13

Well folks, Give to the MAX day is upon us again.  So pry open those wallets and give deeply to support the causes that you think deserve the help.  Yes that means using your money, not someone elses.

Odds are good that I will be supporting PRISM and Seven Dreams as usual.

However I am torn about Parents United, I do find their legislative updates useful, and sometimes appreciate their perspective.  However they seem to be highly "Education MN" friendly.  Meaning they seem to want to raise funding and rarely mention raising accountability or eliminating tenure.  So they may get the lump of coal this year, however I'll take some time to read their recent information before making a final decision.

So who else do you think the other readers and I should consider giving to this year and why?

So many good choices...

Most of my charitable giving goes to buying teaching supplies for my classroom. I just bought an Ipad cover, as my principal finally gave me one, only 2 years later than general ed staff (I guess I should stop complaining.) Next I can start spending my $ on apps.

Oh I am sure you can find $50 to support one of the hundreds of worthwhile causes. (apps vs food)

The choices we have to make...

are you suggesting the education of my students is not a worthwhile cause? maybe in a few years you will be supporting these 5th and 6th grade scholars who read at a first grade level. And btw, I spend hundreds of dollars on teaching materials

Laurie,
I do believe that the kids are a very worthwhile cause, why do you think I give to Seven Dreams... I could do what most Parents do and just give to school fund raisers that support their child. However I have a hard time calling that charity.

As for the $50 comment... I make a choice to spread my giving across multiple deserving causes, instead of just focusing on one or two. I am just encouraging you to look for other worthwhile causes that could use your help.

As for amount, remember that I am a Christian and thus have that 10% goal always hanging out there... I haven't achieved it yet, but I am typically over half way there.

Speaking of giving, I was emailed that it is time for me to give blood again. (they love O+) An excellent donation that only costs me a little time. Though I have to face that big scary needle....

Is your school listed on the GM list? Maybe some folks here would make a donation... Maybe one in particular...

as it so happens someone did make a page for my school
Banaadir Academy

I give my other donations each week as cash into my church offering plate, where there is no record for organizations to keep contacting me for additional $. Salvation army kettles work well for this as well.

Banaadir Academy just got at least an extra $50 from your advertising at G2A...

By the way, you can donate anonymously at the "Give to the Max" site if you have a hard time saying no to the persistent "fund raisers".

Now everyone... Go to Give to the MAX and make some donations. Many of them are being matched today, so your charity will get extra !!!

Besides it is interesting to see which charities are in the lead !!!

thanks for your generous donation! I have tried to look at how much $ we have recieved, but am having trouble getting to the website/page. It's too bad if technical difficulties are limiting donations.

This one is to easy to pass up. Kind of like the ACA website...

The GM site worked great for me. I especially liked that I could pick the charity/amount, put it in the shopping cart, repeat, etc and then checkout once.

Your right though. It sure seems slow now.

okay, as a result of your enthusiasm I picked to organizations for donations (one with a matching grant) It's funny in my family my husband and I often choose to donate separately on the same day and he is always much more generous than me.

Same in my household. My wife has not asked and I am in no hurry to tell...
