The Problem with Keith

This is an interesting piece.  Thoughts?

Latest news says that the Dems/DFL are on record as solidly behind their guy, and that the "victims must be believed/#metoo" meme is no longer operative.

It will be interesting to see what happens. Though I am not sure every relationship disagreement should be grounds for dismissal. This one seemed pretty tame.

And it will be interesting to see if there is a video.

There is supposedly a video, but I wonder if anyone has the presence of mind to switch on their phone while being assaulted (one assumes, unexpectedly)? Also to be determined is whether this is just a dumpee getting even, or if this is real. A credible corroborating story would be a problem, except that KE is a DFLer and such things earn merit points, it seems.

Anyway, while I agree such charges should not sink a career unless a pattern emerges, there are plenty of other reasons to oppose him.

It's a credible allegation, but unlike the Franken allegations, there's only one and the victim is withholding the evidence she claims to have which would answer the question definitively. Additionally, unlike Franken's wishy-washy denials, Ellison has come out very strongly denying the accusation.

I'm personally uncomfortable with him carrying the DFL banner, but I can understand why others view it differently.

The thing making many of us "uncomfortable" is the apparent double standard. Others have been penalized far more for less. Franken, for example.

From a VOX piece.

"On Saturday night, the son of Ellison’s ex-girlfriend Karen Monahan wrote a lengthy Facebook post saying that he saw a video of Ellison grabbing his mother and swearing at her in a bedroom.

This is the second time Ellison has been publicly accused of domestic violence. Another woman, Amy Louise Alexander, spoke out in 2006, going public with her account that Ellison verbally abused her while they were having an affair. She also said he grabbed and pushed her during an argument. Ellison denied even having a relationship with her.

There are several similarities between the accounts: Both women were involved in Minnesota progressive politics, and they described Ellison losing his temper and using threats, verbal harassment, and violence."

Now I agree that Keith deserves due process, however it is a topic of interest.

Jerry,
At least the Democrats deal with the issue...

Unlike the Republicans who seem to be happy trying to cover them up. What was the name of that guy in the Trump WH again???

By "deal with," you mean offering an 86% endorsement?

Please remember that I do not believe in firing someone over an allegation.

Time will tell if there is more to this. Also, to me yelling at your girl friend and telling her to get out of your apartment during the early period of a relationship is a non-issue either way.

How did our society get so up tight?
