How Trump Should Debate

 According to Liz Peek

  • First, the president must remind the nation what he has accomplished in his first three and a half years in office, with specifics. (see article)
  • Next, the president must be likable; he should smile.
  • Third, the president should dial down his attacks on Joe Biden.
  • Finally, the president should tell the audience what he plans to do in his next four years.
It will be interesting to see if Trump can follow this logic formula, or if he goes back to interrupting and attacking?

And with his microphone being shut off for the 2 minutes that Biden is speaking, will Trump act polite / professional?  Or will he be over their screaming like a desperate ignored child?

The problem is that he accomplished nothing although he did undo the accomplishments of others. And can he really ask people to overlook his failure to respond to the one challenge his administration faced? The virus? The one that cost the lives of 200,000 Americans?

Next, the president must be likable; he should smile.

That he was unlikable is the reason people voted for him.

Third, the president should dial down his attacks on Joe Biden.

Dial down the hysteria, maybe, but Trump is far behind, and without a positive agenda. He must attack Biden.

Finally, the president should tell the audience what he plans to do in his next four years.

Trump has no plans

-He has overseen an overhaul of our most important trading relationships, including rewriting NAFTA and successfully making new demands of China, to better serve American workers.

-By January of this year, he had signed 16 pieces of legislation that lifted regulations on numerous sectors of the economy; his business-friendly policies encouraged accelerated investment in domestic industries, created seven million new jobs and nearly half a million new manufacturing jobs.

-Thanks to Trump’s massive tax cuts, 80% of Americans saw their taxes go down. Trump’s policies pushed incomes higher by 6.8% last year, as unemployment hit record lows for every group of Americans.

-He began the hard work of stemming the flow of people entering the country illegally, working with our neighbors to the south, and – yes – he began to build the wall.

-He brought home hostages from Iran, Turkey, Syria, Venezuela and other countries, some of whom had long been held captive.

-He signed criminal justice reform.

-He secured a breakthrough peace agreement in the Middle East between the UAE and Israel.

-He oversaw the rebuilding of our depleted military.

-He has reduced prescription drug prices.

-He has broadened school choice.

These are accomplishments. Whether you like them or not is a different issue. And she did not even discuss the huge influence he has had on the Federal courts.

Many people seem to find him very likable and charismatic, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

He will likely waste time attacking a likable and trusted rival.

Of course he has plans, cut taxes and keep borrowing. (ie stealing from our kids)

Not so much. Kaiser Health: Trump Again Claims He’s Bringing Down Drug Prices, But Details of How Are Skimpy

"He has broadened school choice."

How? About the only tangible thing I can find is a small expansion of school choice in Washington D.C.

The problem with Trump getting involved with trade is that it his judgment in more important views. He was so anxious to be on good terms with Xi that he underplayed concerns about the virus. Trump complains about being lied but it impossible to imagine any other experienced political leader trusting the Chinese, or very many other countries, on such matters. That we don't is why we have a CIA.
