Given the low vaccination rates in some states it will be interesting see how things go... :-O

Raising social involvement, self awareness and self improvement topics, because our communities are the sum of our personal beliefs, behaviors, action or inaction. Only "we" can improve our family, work place, school, city, country, etc.

The idea is to make the virus a chronic problem, like deaths from cigarette smoking and gun violence. It's a compromise between what makes us comfortable and what actually solves a problem.

Here is how I said it on FB...
"I often wonder what happens if some day COVID 21 hits ???
Will 600,000 of our friends and neighbors need to die because people are scared of masks, distancing, etc?
Based on the vaccination numbers below it looks like we likely learned nothing. 😮
The Trump states are too chicken to take the "Trump Vaccines"... 🙂
On the other hand if it happens a couple more times, maybe SS, SSD and Medicare will become financial robust again... 😮
I mean 552,000 of the dead were over 50 yrs old. Maybe this is the Conservative version of sending the elderly into the wilderness to freeze / starve.
Amazing...
The unvaccinated are still getting sick and going to the hospital... :-O
It's all about freedom. This doesn't make sense to me, but for some people it is really more important to retain the freedom to choose, that to provide for the safety of themselves and others.
As I have said, I view this as a psychological quirk one that is entirely predictable. There are always people who reject safety measures. Commonly they will argue that they do more harm than good. Hockey helmets cause players to play more aggressively, seat belts cause more aggressive driving. HPV vaccinations encourage sexual promiscuity. Vaccinations cause autism. Taking guns away from people will mean only criminals will have guns. The specifics are different, but the general form of the argument is always the same.
A corrollary of this by the way, is that the more effective safety measures, the more people will claim they were never needed in the first place.

Personally I think it is about fear and selfishness.
It must be terrible to live as someone on the Far Right or Far Left...
To always believe you are under threat from someone or something... :-O
Fearful and selfish people get vaccinated. As a self obssessed coward myself, I got vaccinated early. I thought Herman Cain was incredibly brave for putting his life on the line to defend his right to attend a Trump rally without a mask. It was a selfless act of courage which just didn't happen to work out.

That implies these old folks logically fear COVID like yourself.
Strangely they fear masks, vaccines, conspiracies, science and government in general much more.
So you can address your fear with a simple shot or 2, where as they are doomed to live in fear every day. :-(
There are always rationalizations for rejecting safety measures. Rejection of safety measures would be a lot harder if there weren't. A frequent one I hear is that there are just too many unanswered questions, that we should wait until there is more information. Well, there are always too many unanswered questions, and we never have all the information about anything.
Fears or at least a lot of them are easily addressed. All they require is will. I fear disease, so I get vaccinated. I fear gun violence so I stay away from places where there is a possibility of getting shot, like schools, post offices, and Minneapolis. I am afraid of concussions, so I don't play hockey. Simple.

But how to deal with the Conservative fears that "someone" wants:
- my money
- my health
- my gun
- my freedoms
- my ????
It must be exhausting
