Another Distraction

I wonder who pays the bills every time Trump deploys the National Guard to distract the small minded? I feel for the Guard members that he keeps using as pawns while disrupting their lives.

I have been wondering about things like that too. Who pays for the police in Washington? Do they still pay for them now that the police department has been taken over by the federal government. Where do the National Guard soldiers come from? DC? Elsewhere?==Hiram

Agreed

Why are the Dems so bad at raising these points? Trump is not tough on crime. DC and other cities are making progress on crime, but need more money. We are currently thinking about canceling our DC trip in October. I don't want to go to an occupied city.

I guess my thought is that DEMs have little or no credibility with many Americans, so who is going to listen to them?

And they always make the same excuse, we would improve things if "you give us more money"... That grows really really old. :-(

DC is a huge area so the personnel will be very spread out. Unless you are an illegal or planning to stay in a homeless encampment, your trip should be fine.

Crime might be the only issue that still polls well for Trump. I wonder how the public will like it if other cities are militarized. I guess MAGA will love it. Dems could try to make the case that their policies on crime are more effective, but the issue is too complex. All Trump needs is pictures of troops in the streets. As someone who prefers not to stroll around near soldiers and humvees I am still trying to think of other places to go. Maybe New England, if it is not too old in Oct.

The challenge is that crime is a problem. No matter what the numbers show, and I am not a big fan of numbers myself, people don't feel safe, and it is a mistake to minimize what people feel.===Hiram

Dems do need to acknowledge that crime is a problem and that using the military is not the best way to address it. Homelessness is also a very difficult problem. Laurie

Trump is presenting Democrats as people who need to be forced to acknowledge is a crime. Once that position prevails, he has already won. Does anyone who needs to be forced to acknowledge obvious and important truths deserve our vote?--Hiram

Crime is Trump's best issue. Many people in occupied cities may not like it, but lots of people will think seeing soldiers in the street is great. Clearing out the homeless will also be a good issue for Trump. I am curious where these people will go. Will they be locked up or moved to another city? Laurie

The idea that stores apparently need to lock up everything of value or go out of business does indicate that the consequences are not high enough... Out of control shoppers / stealers

i think they should use more at home detentions for non violent offenders. If the perp doesn't cooperate with ankle monitor they could be sent to a lockup facility. Are they going to put soldiers in charge of guarding the drug stores?Laurie

People figured out they could steal stuff without consequence. Stores are understaffed, and the staff they do have are told not to confront thieves. Former Minneapolis police officers are serving years in prison because they responded to a call involving a fake 20 dollar bill. That sent a message.==Hiram
