Raising social involvement, self awareness and self improvement topics, because our communities are the sum of our personal beliefs, behaviors, action or inaction. Only "we" can improve our family, work place, school, city, country, etc.

As I have gone on at length, speaking broadly, the Democratic Party is there to do things, the Republican Party is there to prevent things being done. Therefore, when Republicans are in power, it isn't surprising that things don't happen, and that what does happen involves the undoing, directly or indirectly of things previously done.--Hiram
The Democrats "doing things" is often expensive and wasteful. :-O
I at least expect the GOP to show up and punch in...
There are two notable things about waste, fraud, and abuse, what I like to call WFA. First, whenever you do something, particularly something complex and hard, there will always be WFA. Mistakes will be made, efforts will be duplicated, and even triplicated. And malefactors will always find ways to steal from whomever is trying to get a thing done. Seondly, doin stuff involvess making choices, setting priorities, favoring some things at the expense of others. This is inevitable. There will always be things to criticize. Many, many of the criticisms will be reasonable, sadly a few of them will be right. The problem is that if we allow the fear of criticism, the fear of being second guessed, and really the fear of being wrong, to dominate our decisions making process, we will never get anything done. Indeed, we might even be in danger of becoming Republicans.--Hiram
In my view, Minnesota politics is in crisis. It's clear to me, and I suspect a lot of other people, that the Democratic Party totally mismanaged the funding of government programs. We fell down on the job. I could insert a lot of obscenities with reference to the job we did, but this is a family message board. So what [insert obscenity here] do we do. The Strib informs me that the solution is greater reliance on social influencers, sort of like suggesting the use of sturdier umbrellas in a hurricane. Greater reliance on myspace perhaps. Let's just say I have my doubts about, for many reasons, one of which is that the DFL has given no guidance to influencers about what to say.I am at a loss. I will certainly vote for the Democratic candidate In November, but I am so completely appalled at the arrogance of my party in thinking that it can break precedent and nominate for a third term a governor who was so manifestly incompetent in the first two. What [insert another obscenity here] could they be thinking?==Hiram
"Doing stuff" with money that is not theirs is definitely more prone to WFA...
Though I am stunned at the amount of WFA that apparently occurred...
Even though I have no idea just how much that was?
A lot of economic transactions we conduct are done on the basis of trust. nd that isn't just because we are all such nice guys. Increasing security means increasing barriers to trade. If I don't accept your credit card, more or less without security, I know I will lose your business to someone else. So I accept your card, and it works and I manage losses in other ways. To put a good face on it, we were simply not prepared for the massive level of fraud assaults on our governmental systems. Early on, this might have been excusable, but for a long long time, we knew what was happening and we did next to nothing. The state failed its taxpayers, and this DFL leadership failed it's members. What we are seeing now is a vicious combination of complacency enhanced arrogance with naivete.--hiram
I am interested in finding out what the total amount wasted is? The MAGA claims seem just wrong based on the court cases...
The problem is that my essential service is someone else's waste. "Waste" in our economic system can often be equated with "profit margin". I mean really, once the shares have been bought, from the company, what purpose to stockholders serve? Isn't there a better use for dividends they leech from the companies?==Hiram
WASTE to me in this case is tax revenue that is not used for that legally approved essential service... And with government their is a lot of waste... :-(
