Dayton Says Keep Walking Nothing Bad Here

This is classic... I wonder if Dayton had taken "their word" if it was a bank, pipeline company, mining company, etc?  MinnPost PP MN Politics

“As far as I’m concerned there’s no basis for an investigation at taxpayer expense into a private nonprofit organization that has stated they don’t engage in those practices here in Minnesota,” Dayton said. BMTN Dayton

FactCheck.org Debunks Deceptively Edited Video Smearing Planned Parenthood

The very first sentence of the Minnpost article is wrong. There was no sale of tissues. And there is no need for investigation as there is zero evidence of illegal activity.

I just liked his rationale... They said they don't, and I trust them...

Investigations have been conducted for equal or lesser reasons. It will be interesting to see what the upcoming videos show, and in which states they occur.

If something like this occurred with regard to a hedge fund manager... The Liberals would be demanding the investigation.

This investigation request is based on zero evidence. Do you have an actual example of liberals demanding an investigation based on zero evidence? What about the abortion story makes you think there was illegal activity?

I just don't care that much what some got lured into saying over a three martini lunch.

The thing of it is, the gist of the charge seems to be that Planned Parenthood is selling human tissue in violation of the law. As anyone who has dealt with the health care industry knows, their billing practices are extremely complex. Anyone looking into these issues could, I am sure, find a way to reasonably argue that hospitals are selling tissue. Hospitals in reply would certainly argue that they are selling tissue, they are providing services. This very quickly becomes a highly technical, and extraordinarily of distinctions lacking differences.

My question is this. If anti abortion forces feel that Planned Parenthood is getting too close to the line of selling tissue, why didn't they do the reasonable thing and bring these concerns to Planned Parenthood's attention?

If PPMN actually does do tissue donation, I can't imagine it would stay secret based on the current furor.

Cue the sad trombone.

"Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) fast-tracked a bill to defund Planned Parenthood on Friday because of an undercover video of a Planned Parenthood doctor discussing the donation of fetal tissue after abortions. But McConnell was one of many Republicans who voted to lift a ban on fetal tissue donations after abortions in 1993 -- the very move that legalized Planned Parenthood's actions. ...

The 1993 law explicitly allows for the kind of compensation Planned Parenthood staffers discuss in the video. It says fetal tissue cannot be sold for "valuable consideration," which "does not include reasonable payments associated with the transportation, implantation, processing, preservation, quality control, or storage of human fetal tissue.""

I guess I don't think they are breaking the law. I just think their practices may be worth some public discussion.

It's really hard to say whether they are breaking the law or not. My point is that if these folks had a problem with Planned Parenthood's business practices, why didn't they bring that to the attention of Planned Parenthood?

The idea that they are killing living fetuses and then haggling over handling fees may not sit well with many.

Sean said...

In the full unedited videos, there's really not any haggling going on.

Heck, even some of the folks at The Federalist don't see much going on here.

Which do people/you object to more more abortion or tissue donation. I really don't get what the big deal is over the video. Maybe anti abortion people find the matter of fact tone callous.

Why not work with Planned Parenthood then, to clean up these business practices?

America Still Wants To Fund Planned Parenthood After Sting Videos: Poll

Only 28 percent support cutting funding.

I think the 52% is probably closer to reality. When HP needs to say liberal polling group, one knows a bias is highly likely...
