"However you feel about the "Equal Pay" debate that's going on right now in the US soccer federation (USSF) vs US women's national team (USWNT) Law suit, this article in the LA Times gives you the relevant information you need to make your own decision.
LA Times Equal Pay is Complicated
Having said that, after reading the facts about how the men and women are compensated, I find it pretty shameful to be sueing the USSF for "equal pay", when they are ...comparing apples and oranges.
I'm open to debate....

My first comment in response.
Since the advertisers and crowds seem to prefer male soccer, it makes sense to me that the women would make less.
It makes sense to me that women would make less based on the revenues they produce. This is very similar to the fact that Mpls teams often have less money to spend on the players because we are a small market with less revenue.

Or like our minor league teams...
Or should the world little league champions make the same money as the major league players.
I mean the kids work hard and perform... :-)
Men getting paid more for substandard work than women who are literally the best in the world at it is as old as civilization itself.

Also, many millions more people watched the US Women in the World Cup this year than the US Men in the World Cup last year. Literally NOBODY watched the US Men in the World Cup last year.

Personally... I think we should eliminate the women's tee in golf, go to all co-ed teams in all sports, etc.
I mean if the women are so good and wanted to be totally equal... Then they should compete with the men...
Another Discussion of the Numbers
And an analysis by PolitiFact
There is no women's tee in golf. Not at most golf courses anyway.

In my league, the Ladies and Seniority citizens still get the benefit of hitting from the Ladies Tee. :-)
And I understand that it makes sense since the men typically can drive further...
And it is apparently a chivalrous thing to do... :-)
But it certainly does not support equality...
This is a long but interesting piece.
Maybe we need to have sports defined by participant size rather than sex...
The golf courses I play at simply have different tee boxes for different skill levels or whatever distances a person wants to play. At the new Braemar, they have five different tees per hole. They are labeled E, D, I, N, and A. The idea that the shorter ones are 'Ladies tees' is beyond outdated at this point.

Wendys Challenge
"The Wendy's 3-Tour Challenge was an unofficial golf event held in November at the Rio Secco Golf Club in Henderson, Nevada. The tournament was a unique stroke play event, and, as the name suggests, pitted three teams, with three members per team, from the PGA Tour, the LPGA Tour, and the Champions Tour (known as the Senior PGA Tour prior to 2001) against each other. The 2013 purse was $1 million.[1]
The challenge event was done in one day, over 18 holes, and is usually held on a Tuesday. It was preceded by an amateur tournament and a one-day pro-am tournament. The event was handicapped to level the playing field. The PGA Tour players played the course at its full length, while the Champions Tour players hit from tee positions that made the course shorter and the LPGA players from even shorter tee positions."
PGA Avg Drive ~57 yards longer
Avg PGA Length
Avg LPGA Length
600 Yards shorter...
So label them whatever you want, they are for players who can not drive as far...
Be they unable, old or a woman... :-)
Why is it so hard for you to acknowledge that men and women are not the same?
Just as Major League and Minor League Players are not...
The best men simply have the superior strength and capability.
And in many sports that is highly beneficial.
Therefore customers are more willing to pay to watch these "best of the best".
On a somewhat related and humorous note.
We have a tall slender woman who played college golf and can kick my butt up and down a golf course on our work league.
She has no qualms about taking her benefit of using the women's tee... :-)
There are many benefits of being a woman...
Unfortunately Liberals don't like to note them...
"Why is it so hard for you to acknowledge that men and women are not the same?"
There you go again. I never said any such thing.
I wonder how young boys learning the game feel about hitting from the girls tee.
They're simply "forward tees", as the author of your article noted. They are for anybody. Therefore, calling them "ladies tees" is simply incorrect nomenclature. It has nothing to do with whether men and women are the same or different, and I never argued that point either way.
You've been doing this blog for a long time, and some of us have repeatedly asked you to stop misrepresenting our arguments or simply making them up. If you want us to have conversations and arguments and whatnot, you need to stop making things up.
Moose
LPGA course is shorter because they hit shorter...
And yes the young boys and women may be more similar in strength than the Men and Women.
So should the women be paid more like the young boys?
I have argued about Women's soccer and the nomenclature of the forward tees. You are arguing about something else.
Moose
I am arguing that if one wants equal pay, they should be competing on the same field with the same rules.
They play the same sport with the same rules. So now you're arguing that men and women aren't different.
Moose
I acknowledge that Men and Women are different, especially in sports that require strength and endurance. You are the one saying that they should be paid the same even though their capabilities are likely very different.
For Comparison
Perhaps if we rewarded those who are the best in the world more than those who can get more eyeballs, the men would strive to be better. Why coddle those who aren’t succeeding. They should work harder and make better choices. I mean...that’s your mantra.
Moose
Do you think the women’s team could beat the men?
Irrelevant.
Moose
Of course it is relevant...
The women's team is not "the best" in the world.
They are "the best women's team in the world".
Just as the Little League World Champions are the best youngster baseball team in the world.
Now I am not sure what the women or men should earn.
But I know that comparing the incomes in different leagues is pointless.
This is going nowhere. I will now stop wasting my time.
Moose
Good idea...
Insisting that people be equally compensated when they work in a different less challenging league is a bit hard to justify.
Last word
