Republicans are seeking refuge in "both sides do it" rhetoric. For the next four years, they will sifting through everything Biden does and claim "he is doing the same thing as Trump, only worse." In a way its a relief from the other permanent Republican arguments, "He is a hypocrite." and "He is applying double standards." In rhetorical terms, these are great arguments for Republicans because they are just about always true to one degree or another. By the way, the up and comer for these kind of stock arguments is, "He is being divisive". It's an argument anyone can make about anyone else, anytime there is a lack of agreement.
The thing about all of these arguments is that they have no impact on how we actually decide things. If you are faced with a complicated and consequential life decision, do you ask yourself, which choice would be less hypocritical? Which answer would be consistent with what I have done in the past? Which choice would be less of divisive? Or do you simply ask yourself, which is the best choice?
