How did we get Americans become the people who shoot at people stranded in the ocean? I thought only the evil Germans and Japanese strafed stranded people.
I kept thinking that there are so many movies where the "evil villain" is working to kill desperate people who are just struggling to stay alive... And that it is so strange that American Citizens / Politicians are supporting our US Military doing this EVIL thing. The irony amazed me and made me sad... 🙁

I don't really understand why the second strike is viewed as so much worse than the first strike. Both seem pretty terrible to me compared to intercepting the boats and confiscating any drugs that are found.---Laurie
I think the question raised here is fascinating. To start with, I have a chicken or egg issue. Is the rejection of the rule of law caused by the media, or is has the media just reflected attitudes that have always been present in our culture. I am thinking here of movies like "Dirty Harry" or "Death Wish". What I hear today, that our legal system, things like the rule of law and due process just don't work. Crime flourishes in an environment where those values are present. Why prosecute drug dealers or people we suspect of drug dealing? Why not simply kill them?==Hiram
Laurie, Being a smuggler has always been a risky occupation. And when they are operating under power, they know the risks...Especailly after the first boat was blown up.
Shooting at a disabled boat to kill defenseless people is very different from my perspective.
To me it seems both stikes should be legal or both stikes should be illegal. My view is both stikes should be illegal. If they are drug runners they should be arrested and the drugs confiscated.
