Well to me it looks like the GOP is for the most part offering up ACA-Lite... What do you think?

aca lite doesn't sound too bad unless you are someone who will no longer be able to afford insurance.
They can not afford it currently... Other citizens are having to pay for their insurance...
I will never understand the Liberals endless desire to make successful highly motivated citizens pay for the choices of others...
- You choose to not learn in school. Who needs an education, we will make sure they help pay your bills.
- You choose to have more kids than you can afford. You are owed those children, we will make sure they help pay your bills.
- You don't want to deal with your Parents or Spouse... Who needs them, we will make sure they help to pay your bills.
- You aren't to ambitious or hard working. That's okay we know work isn't fun, we will make sure they help pay your bills.
No wonder so many people voted for Trump... And against Hillary's welfare state platform.

Well of course that does make us ask why we subsidized the business career of our bankrupt president. Job creation, I suppose.

From what I gather, Republicans are proposing a plan whose advantages to them are that costs are more difficult to track and appear in ways on the balance sheet that they are less likely to be blamed for. Republicans love Enron style accounting, not because it's better, but because it's easier to campaign on.

I know I shouldn't ask, but how did the tax payers subsidize Trump?
Personally I think large tax credits and state block grants are pretty easy to see. Not sure what you mean.
What I am puzzled by is how are they going to pay for it if they get rid of the mandates, related taxes, etc?
This CNN Money Analysis definitely states that this is a big win for the wealthier Americans and Businesses who were paying the most for the care of other people.

...at the expense of the middle and lower classes. They simply want to dismantle our democracy (Republic).

Trump doesn't pay taxes. That means that the taxpayer assume the burden of the taxes Trump doesn't pay. The aircraft carriers Trump wants us to buy so that we can wage war over the artificial islands in the South China Sea, don't pay for themselves.

"What do you think?"
It's predictably awful. The CBO score on this bill is going to kill it and they're going to have to go back to the drawing board again. Even conservative analysts are saying this could kick up to 20 million folks of of health insurance.
Now this has to be one of the strangest comments I have read in a long time. "...at the expense of the middle and lower classes. They simply want to dismantle our democracy (Republic)."
And I think it was in response to my "this is a big win for the wealthier Americans and Businesses who were paying the most for the care of other people."
And maybe I should have said "big relief" instead of "big win"...
Please remember that ACA applied a huge tax burden on the wealthier Americans, most businesses and many of us who have good company supported health insurance. The reality is that most of us were paying a lot in additional costs so that unsuccessful people could have health insurance for FREE or at substantially reduced costs.
So I am not sure that I would relate cutting a huge broadly applied tax and cutting a welfare like entitlement is anyway an attempt to dismantle or Democracy (ie republic)
This is going to get exciting...

You'll see.
Really... Were we any less of a Democracy / Republic before our significant leftward shift towards being a Social Democracy? G2A Frogs
By the way, please sign your comments with some name. Real or made up is fine. It just helps us gain perspective.

Well it least half understands why the individual mandate is critical to having a cost effective successful healthcare system...

I haven't seen what the new proposal does to stop this. Remember that a family member that works for an insurance company said that this was a real problem. People would apply, get insurance, have a major operation (ie hip replacement, etc), get well and then stop paying the premiums... And there was nothing the company could do to stop them. No wonder they raised premiums and/or stopped offering policies.
The difference between the Democratic and Republican approach is that the Democrats want to sell you health insurance; Republicans want you to be able to get health insurance if you want it. The Republican approach is cheaper for the government because it widens the cracks people can fall through. Whether it's cheaper overall is less clear, because under the Republican approach who actually pays for actual health care is less clear.
Republicans believe government should be run like a business, and what many businesses do is conceal costs. The model they favor is based on Enron where a lot of people made a lot of money by moving liabilities off the more easily available corporate books. That's what they seem to want to do about health care.
--Hiram
Your flawed Enron logic implies that the US government and our society is financially responsible for the healthcare costs of every American citizen...
Which does align with the Liberal / Democratic view that every citizen is owed free healthcare (ie paid for by other citizens), no matter their personal choices, effort, etc.
Of course the Conservative / GOP people believe that all able bodied & minded citizens should be responsible for their personal liabilities, including healthcare bills.
That is why the true Conservatives are balking at the GOP healthcare proposal. Those credits are still a form of the government and society accepting a liability on the books that should not be theirs.
Eric at MP weighed in. Here is my first comment there.
"Just curious, why are people so adamant that subsidized healthcare should be funded and managed by the Federal government?
I was listening to NPR on the way in and the MN Healthcare Dept head was going through how much reduction in funding the state would get under the different scenarios. And my first thought was "why does this matter"?
As we have noted before, the citizens of MN pay more into the Federal coffers than they get back. So I guess I am fine if the Feds get out of the healthcare business and leave it to the States. Then if any of your neighbors do not have adequate care, you can ask your State government to address the issue.
Not sure how many people decided that their local governments were incapable of caring for the State's citizens? "
From MP Eric
"Ryan has been re-elected multiple times, apparently he is doing exactly what his constituents want him to do. And I am fine with cutting the compensation and benefits of all federal employees including that of Congress.
I do wish you would take the bait because I am curious regarding your perspective. For some reason some people truly believe that all citizens are entitled to food, housing, healthcare, etc no matter their choices, behaviors and actions. To pay for this other citizens are required to pick up the bill.
Please remember that in my view being a citizen comes with both benefits and responsibilities. The successful have to pay the majority of the bills since they have money, and we throw them in jail if they refuse to pay their taxes. What should we do when citizens choose to not learn in K-12, choose to have more kids than they can afford to care for, choose to not move to where the jobs are, etc?
I don't think throwing them in jail is the answer, but just writing them more checks does not seem correct either."
