USA Israel Politics

Now I know little about this topic, but it seems the Israeli Jews are just as crazy as many Islamic fundamentalists. It seems that they having been treating Palestinians as bad as we treated Native Americans...

Israel West Bank Barrier Wall
Jewish Journal UN2334
Times of Israel Netanyahu at War with World
CNN What Resolution Means
CNN Kerry to Outline Peace Plan
CNN Israel lashes out at Obama
CNN Trump picks Friedman
ET Trump Insults UN
CNBC Trump Criticizes UN
CNN Graham US should Defund UN

So 14 out of 15 countries agreed that Israel is violating the law. And for some reason Trump and Graham think they know better???  And not only do they know better, but they are willing to try and bully all the other countries to comply with their wishes.

It reminds me a lot of Russia's using it's power to protect Assad in Syria.  Thoughts?

Donald just hasn't thought about it. It is one of the many things that makes him unfit to be president.

Unfortunately for the Palestinians, I think he has thought about it and believes that Israel has the right to take over all of the land in the contested areas. That is likely why he selected the ambassador that he did and why Netanyahu likes him so much.

Trump says he wants to negotiate a settlement between the Palestinians and Israel. That's what he is, how he defines himself, isn't it? As a dealmaker? Yet by giving up without anything in return, two extremely valuable bargaining chips, which is what he does when he recognizes the Israeli settlements in the West Bank as legal, and by moving the American embassy to Jerusalem, what does he have left to negotiate? What are his bargaining chips with Israel? He could threaten to reduce American aid to Israel, but how credible a threat is that?

Negotiating a settlement is easy if all he cares about is keeping the Jewish folks happy.

Many Americans seem to think Israel should just take over the whole land area and be done with it. There logic is that Israel is the only stable democracy in the area.

Actually, it's impossible. It's not negotiating a settlement that makes Israel happy. What Donald seems to be signalling is support for Israeli policy which in de facto terms, rejects any possibility of a settlement with the Palestinians. I am not saying whether that's good or bad, that's a different discussion. Trump's policy, or at least the policy he is signalling, is to reject any effort to meaningfully negotiate the outstanding disputes.

Trump is a curious guy. He sees himself as a negotiator, but he doesn't seem to have any interest at all in positioning himself in ways that would allow him to negotiate effectively. Brexit is like that. He supports withdrawal of Britain from Europe without first advocating measures that would allow Britain to effectively negotiate their withdrawal.

As a bankrupt, Trump became very accustomed to bargaining from a position of weakness. He learned that lack of power can be used and manipulated often quite successfully. The problem we have now, is that he may extrapolate the lessons he learned from the failure of his business, to the nation as a whole. He may on some level or another, believe that the only path to success is to weaken us initially. That does help to explain both his negativity, and his willingness to give up bargaining chips more conventional thinkers would argue we need or would at least be helpful in any negotiation process.
