Disabled or Just Desperate

A gift from Laurie...
"An off topic link... Although a tiny bit related as John so loves to put down people he judges as irresponsible. So who are a large group of the so called takers?" WP Rural Americans: Disabled or Just Desperate?
Well I am happy to not let you down.  It is sad that so many people somehow qualify for SS Disability, but maybe Bureaucrats running the system feel they need more mouths to justify their jobs...
"There are 13 million working-age Americans — ages 18 to 64 — receiving disability payments. This number includes every working-age person who receives benefits through the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program, the Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) program or both."
And look...  These folks are happy to help find your ailment for you... How did our country and it's citizens get here?

No wonder SS Disability was and will again be insolventIt looks like we had better raise that FICA tax rate higher to help pay for these great benefits. Comic Source

It is interesting to compare this...

"Between 1996 and 2015, the number of working-age adults receiving disability climbed from 7.7 million to 13 million. The federal government this year will spend an estimated $192 billion on disability payments, more than the combined total for food stamps, welfare, housing subsidies and unemployment assistance." WAPO

to the number of working aged people in the USA. Apparently there were about 168 million in 1996 and 204 million in 2015.

1996 = 7.7 / 168 = 4.56% of working age people are on disability
2015 = 13 / 204 = 6.37% of working age people are on disability

Yep... Probably time to make it harder to get disability.

So in 1996 22 people were working to support one person on disability.

In 2015 there are apparently 16 people working to support one person on disability

You folks pulling the wagon had better start pulling harder...
More folks are climbing in and fewer people are pulling.

And just think, this is just disability... I wonder what it looks like when you add welfare and Medicaid.
