MN Real ID Chaos

MPR MN Real ID

Well, the craziness continues...  The far Right is worrying about Big Brother and the far Left wants to give ILLEGAL residents a LEGAL license.

You know my simplistic views:
  • Go to a National ID and database that contains important information about all LEGAL residents / citizens. (ie citizenship status, voter registration status, sanity status, past crimes, etc)
  • Send the ILLEGALs home until they can become LEGAL
Thoughts on any of this?

As I understand it, everyone has an identity.

You don't need a national database to do this. You simply have to coordinate among state databases, which is as it should be. Then, of course, you have to have elected officials with the integrity and competence to do the necessary work, which is questionable, at least in Minnesota.

50 individual databases that contain similar key data and seamlessly communicate with each other seem fine with me. Not sure how setting up 50 of them is better than one. Just seems more expensive and complicated to me.

More expensive and complicated than letting a federal bureaucracy do it? You mean like the efficiency, simplicity and customer service outlook of the IRS?

Actually I think the IRS does fine given the huge complexity of their task.

And I think collecting, storing and communicating <50 pieces of critical data about 320 million citizens would be much simpler.

By that logic, the Minneapolis schools do "just fine," too, considering how many different "kinds" of kids with whom they must deal. The question becomes how "fine" is "fine enough"? 50% defects is below the standard I would expect in any normal business.

As usual... Business controls the quality of their inputs.

As long as Baby Maker(s) are allowed to be irresponsible Parent(s) who neglect helping their babies to be healthy, well developed and ready for school... There will be problems.

So, suppose my business is Superfund site cleanup, drug rehabilitation or bomb disposal? Do I have control of my inputs? No, I adapt to the "inputs" that I find, and the result is that the "input" is remediated and returned to "standard" or "normal." If I fail 50% of the time at bomb disposal, like the mpls schools do and with more tragic results, I won't be in business very long.

Before we jump into this briar patch again, I note that the State Senate has voted against the Real ID bill, because it did not allow illegal immigrants to get drivers licenses. That's what us conservatives call a win-win. We avoid Big Brother AND we get to blame the DFL for favoring illegal immigrants so much that MN citizens are "not allowed to fly." We had better hope that Congressman Lewis succeeds in ending this government overreach.

...with the added benefit of uninsured, unlicensed, undocumented people driving around on our highways.

Anon, Give us a name, any consistent name...

By the way, they won't be "uninsured, unlicensed, undocumented people driving around on our highways", taking jobs from legal citizens and depressing wages if we deport them and make them enter the USA legally...

And, I would point out, that people here illegally are violating our laws by driving without a license and without insurance, and should not be given amnesty on any of it, let alone legalizing that criminality and allowing them to vote-- another crime.
