Trump Gets a Medal

Well it looks like the Saudi's like Trump better than they liked Obama...

I bet he is eating that up, and the Liberals will be gnashing their teeth.

no gnashing teeth here. Who would want a medal from the Saudi's, the country of origin for nearly all the 911 hijackers?

It's not a matter of gnashing teeth. I have to ask, why would anyone accept or want a medal from Saudi Arabia? It's the sort of thing advance people work hard and carefully to avoid. And it's not the sort of thing one can easily pawn.

I don't do the hypocrisy thing much. That's more of a conservative talking point. But it is strange that Trump seems to try to do things on a larger scale that conservatives raged about when President Obama did them. A random photograph caught Obama nodding his head at the Saudi king, and the weeping and yes the gnashing of teeth went on for weeks. And then Trump bows deeply and excepts an award from a guy who beheads people for fun. What could Donald be thinking of?

Trump would...

And remember to not judge a country by it's worst citizens. If prejudiced people did that with regard to America it would be real bad. We have some real grade A whackos here.

Hiram,
Please provide a source for where the King has people be-headed for fun.

Even by Trump standards, the last few-days have been head-spinning in exposing the hypocrisy of this Administration. Let's review:

* Leaks of Trump's new budget show him whacking Medicaid and Social Security, which he explicitly vowed not to do while campaigning several times.

* Said budget also zeroes out funding for Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity, subsidized school lunches, and the Interagency Council on Homelessness -- programs which help his working-class supporters.

* Called Islam "one of the world's great faiths" after saying during the campaign that "Islam hates us".

* Refused to say the phrase "Radical Islamic Terrorism" in Saudi Arabia, continuing the great Trump tradition of not having the guts to say it to their face that he started with his meeting with Mexico's President during the campaign. Trump also repeatedly criticized the Obama Administration for not using that phrase. But Trump's administration now prefers the term "Islamist Terrorism".

* Verbal mis-steps of saying "Islamic" instead of "Islamist" were blamed on "exhaustion" on the second day of a nine-day trip. This after he repeatedly claimed that Hillary Clinton and Jeb Bush didn't have the stamina or energy to be President.

* Trump repeatedly criticized Saudi Arabia (and its government), during the campaign, for being the source of the 9/11 hijackers. But nary a discouraging word this weekend, plus a $110B arms sale.

* Jared Kushner personally intervened in the arms sale to force Lockheed Martin to give the Saudis a better deal. America First?

* Trump criticized Obama for bowing to the Saudi leader, then did some weird half-curtsy, half-bow maneuver himself.

* The First Lady and Ivanka did not wear headscarves in Saudi Arabia, after Trump had criticized Michelle Obama for doing the same.

* Ivanka accepted $100M donations from the Saudis and UAE to support her still undefined women's entrepreneurial fund. That's 4x the amount the Clinton Foundation accepted and they had actual in-place programs that were being funded.

* Trump has reneged on his campaign promise to move the U.S. embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

And your point is...

Is he behaving better or worse than you wish him to?

Would you rather have President Trump act like Candidate Trump?

I sure wouldn't...

"Would you rather have President Trump act like Candidate Trump?"

I would. Then perhaps more Americans would wake up.

If we've reached a point where anything a politician says during a campaign can just be tossed overboard at a moment's notice without even an acknowledgment that the position has changed, we're in a pretty sorry place. Some of these things were pretty darn important to the argument Trump was making as to why people should vote for him.

John said...

Moose,
You likely have Trump as your President for ~4 more years. For our won good, let's hope he does well. Just like I did for Obama.

Sean,
And if I was one of the "irredeemable deplorable rednecks" I may be frustrated with him. But I think he is doing well.

I do agree that it would be nice if candidates were more honest up front, but then we may never elect them. Imagine if Hillary had said, please elect me though I will be able to get little done because the House is controlled by the GOP...

"But I think he is doing well."

How so, exactly?

"Imagine if Hillary had said, please elect me though I will be able to get little done because the House is controlled by the GOP..."

Don't give me this false equivalence B.S.

As I left for Anon -- a couple of days ago.

"Apparently we are to refer to our new anon as --

Well --,
Knowing quite a few of the true Trump supporters, they would definitely disagree with this statement... "They knew they were electing a man to the presidency who they knew was not capable of doing the job."

And me being on the fence, other than his big mouth and questionable character I guess I would not say he is doing bad.

Gorsuch seems like a good pick and firing Comey seems fine other than the timing / method.

Directing his cabinet to take an axe to the Federal Regulatory power structure seems good.

He agreed to arm the Kurds even though the Turks disagreed.

He helped to get AHCA passed through the House.

Blowing up Syrian planes and defending the Syrian de-escalation zones is more than Obama dared do.

I guess I am an eternal optimist, between Pence, Ryan, McConnell and the other qualified people surrounding him. I think that this may turn out okay.

Well unless one of these investigations actually find him personally guilty of something." G2A

I never said otherwise. I simply said that he should be consistent. Those of us who knew he was a con man from the start would like the rest of the country to wake up to it. It would be better for the country.

False equivalence seems to be in the eye of the beholder.

Please remember how to tell if a politician is lying?

THEIR LIPS ARE MOVING !!!

Moose,
Unfortunately I see most politicians as being con people.

If one is a bit more flamboyant or reserved makes little difference to me. The proof is in the results.

"firing Comey seems fine other than the timing / method"

In the other thread, you're talking about Bill Clinton's high crimes, but firing the prosecutor in charge of the investigation of the Trump's campaign for the express purpose of undermining said investigation is "fine"?

"He agreed to arm the Kurds even though the Turks disagreed."

Good luck defeating ISIS without Turkish cooperation.

"Blowing up Syrian planes and defending the Syrian de-escalation zones is more than Obama dared do."

The former, yes. But, of course, Trump's military involvement in Syria runs exactly contrary to what he said during the campaign. As for the latter, Syrian de-escalation zones are a Russian idea, not a Trump idea -- and no concrete plan to create them exists as of yet.

Today's three-dimensional chess maneuver of telling the world's media how he never said the classified information he shared with the Russians was from Israel while standing next to the Israeli Prime Minister was brilliance personified.

"Unfortunately I see most politicians as being con people."

None of my representatives are two-faced liars like Trump is.

Ellison, Klobuchar, and Franken...all very straight-forward, honest politicians. They do what they say they will do.

Sean,
As I said, we will see what the investigation shows... This is pure speculation. "firing the prosecutor in charge of the investigation of the Trump's campaign for the express purpose of undermining said investigation" for now... Personally I think he fired Comey because he during his testimony Comey implied there was a small chance that his actions may have impacted the election. This is something Trump is VERY sensitive about as we know.

I never said Trump was brilliant, just that he seems to be doing okay overall.

Moose,
I like Amy Klobuchar, I don't think I would trust Franken or Ellison too far. They seem like proficient snake oil salesmen.

No, it's not. Trump indicated as much in the Lester Holt interview and Sean Spicer didn't deny the NYT report that Trump said so to the Russians in the Oval Office.

Everything's fine.

President Trump asked two of the nation’s top intelligence officials in March to help him push back against an FBI investigation into possible coordination between his campaign and the Russian government, according to current and former officials.

Trump made separate appeals to the director of national intelligence, Daniel Coats, and to Adm. Michael S. Rogers, the director of the National Security Agency, urging them to publicly deny the existence of any evidence of collusion during the 2016 election.

Coats and Rogers refused to comply with the requests, which they both deemed to be inappropriate, according to two current and two former officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss private communications with the president.

Your comments excusing all of Trumps actions make you look idiotic, John. While we still don't know to what extent Trump or his campaign colluded with the Russians, it becomes more clear everyday that Trump is a moron. I am not a lawyer, but it also appears to be obstruction of justice to me.

Laurie,
If stressing the importance of due process and innocent until proven guilty makes me appear idiotic to you. That really is okay with me.
