Essentially what is being proposed here is single payer. The advantage of single payer is that it allows the government to use market power to drive prices down. Critics of government power can and do argue that this is a form of theft, that guns and other weapons will be held to the heads of various providers. I don't generally find those arguments persuasive, but like the market based Obamacare approach, single payer does have lots of problems. There isn't any policy in this area that doesn't.

Health care is an oligarchical system. Bear in mind, that it isn't a question of whether it will be controlled, but by whom. And in the nature of things, we can pretty much count on the fact that whomever we turn health care in America over to, will find a way to favor their interests. I actually don't view that as a bad thing, just something that needs to be monitored and responded to when abuses to occur.

Health care costs are rising in America because the people who benefit from those increase control policy. And quite frankly, we are largely ok with that. Cost control wasn't a priority with Obamacare just as it isn't with TrumpCare.
