Ignore the Person Behind the Curtain

If you have missed it, we have been discussing immigration over on Speed's site. I believe illegal aliens are "illegal" and therefore should be arrested and deported ASAP. Others would like to tie the hands of our police and look the other way. What do you think?

As is typical, Jon/Hiram and John/Give2Attain agree and disagree.

It seems we both believe that the law should be enforced. Also, the state laws should be constitutional.

From my perspective, the difference is whether to give the police officers the benefit of the doubt that they will use good judgement. I guess I trust them and their judgement for the most part.

Another difference that seems apparent is that though I am very empathetic to the plight of illegal aliens, here and in their own home countries. I still believe the law needs to be aggressively enforced to cut down the amount of border jumping.

And to be fair to the legal immigrants that follow due process, and are looking for good paying entry level jobs so that their families can pursue the American dream.

I forgot one other thing we agree on. The illegal immigrants do keep costs/wages lower for many businesses and us consumers.

So do we protect our own poor and legal immigrants, or do we continue to keep costs/incomes low while rewarding law breakers?

No wonder the Liberals & Conservatives get all mixed up on this one...
