Wisdom of Peter Lynch

 1. "In the stock market, the most important organ is the stomach. It's not the brain." (Lynch explained that investors need to know their pain tolerance, and often succeed if they simply hang on to their holdings.)

2. "You've got to look in the mirror every day and say, 'What am I going to do if the market goes down 10%? What do I do if it goes down 20%? Am I going to sell? Am I going to get out?' If that's your answer, you should consider reducing your stock holdings today."

3. "Stocks aren't lottery tickets. Behind every stock is a company. If the company does well, over time the stocks do well, and vice versa. You have to look at the company — that's what you research."

4. "The public's careful when they buy a house, when they buy a refrigerator, when they buy a car. They'll work hours to save a hundred dollars on a roundtrip air ticket. Yet they'll put $5,000 or $10,000 on some zany idea they heard on the bus. That's gambling. That's not investing. That's not research. That's just total speculation."

5. "In baseball terms, you want to buy in the second or third inning and get out in the seventh or eighth." (Lynch gave the example of Walmart, which only had stores in 15% of the US as a 10-year-old public company, spent the next 30 years expanding nationwide, and its stock skyrocketed 50-fold during that period.)

6. "When the business goes from semi-crummy to better to good, I'm probably out. You sell the company that was the growth story when there's no room to grow."

7. "Theoretically, the individual's edge has improved in the last 20, 30 years versus the professional. The problem is people have so many biases. They won't look at a railroad, an oil company, a steel company. They're only going to look at companies growing 40% a year. They won't look at turnarounds. Or companies with unions. You have to really be agnostic."

8. "Long term, the stock market's a very good place to be. But more people have lost money waiting for corrections and anticipating corrections than in the actual corrections. Trying to predict market highs and lows is not productive."

9. "I think if you spent over 13 minutes a year on economics, you've wasted over 10 minutes. It's not helpful. Everybody wants to predict the future, and I've tried to call the 1-800 psychic hotlines. It hasn't helped. The only thing I would look at is what's happening right now."

Climate Change Thoughts by Jerry

A spammer hit this 2019 post and it triggered Jerry to comment.

Well, since this troll has re-opened the topic, let's take another view of this "problem." I contend it is not a problem at all, and that all the real data I can see tells me the "catastrophe" simply isn't going to happen, and that if it does it will not be "manmade" and therefore it is nothing we can actually "do something" about. Even the IPCC has lowered its average "Equilibrium Climate Sensitivity" to something almost NON-catastrophic (yet still too high by all research).

But let us assume for the moment that your blind faith belief in Catastrophic Anthropogenic Global Warming is somehow real, and that we MUST "do something." Good news, we are actually doing it! Bad news, it not only hasn't made a dime's worth of difference except that it costs more and results in the occasional brownout or worse. But let's overlook that, too, and rush headlong into the bright future of 100% "renewable energy" now being mandated by our governments. Can I assume that they will also mandate that the Earth somehow produce somewhere between 200% and 1700% of the known reserves of the minerals required? If they can do that, then why not simply mandate that the seas and temperatures cease to rise?

Is Being GOP Bad for Your Health?

How Many Republicans Died Because the GOP Turned Against Vaccines?

This supports what I have shown before...  Being anti-vaccine, anti-public health policy, anti-mask and lower income increases the death rates significantly.

A Chinese co-worker is concerned about the consequences of China dropping the COVID restrictions given their less effective and older vaccine.  I had a hard explaining why many American's are not keeping up with their boosters. :-O

Oh well, Darwin explained it pretty well many years ago...  The weak and stupid die to make a stronger smarter human. :-O

Who'll Stop the Rain?

And is this like 2000 or 2008?  I mean will it just keep slowly dropping or will it plummet?

I do not see the GOP doing anything to reduce inflation or prevent a severe recession.  Even though their 2017 unneeded tax cuts and massive COVID bailout helped create a $7.5 Trillion deficit mess.

I am pretty sure the GOP will be happy to let citizens suffer in preparation for the 2024 elections. So I am still betting on a CRASH... :-(

For My Conspiracy Minded Friends :-)

who only trust media that says what they belive already... :-)

Confirmation bias, the tendency to process information by looking for, or interpreting, information that is consistent with one’s existing beliefs. This biased approach to decision making is largely unintentional and often results in ignoring inconsistent information. Existing beliefs can include one’s expectations in a given situation and predictions about a particular outcome. People are especially likely to process information to support their own beliefs when the issue is highly important or self-relevant.

Did Trump Go Too Far

for Conservatives of good conscience?

I mean most of us figured out that he is a lying self serving con man with few morals.

Will guilt by association with evil nut cases finally convince folks to leave the cult of Trump?

Rubio is a Loser

Acting like he is Pro-Union...  Biden finally comes out and says he supports the deal that 8 of the 12 unions have agreed to, and Rubio can not just say that this makes sense?  As if he and the GOP are friends of labor and unions... :-O

Please remember that I am am pretty anti-union, due to the waste and poor quality I have been exposed to in union environments over the decades.  So I am definitely supportive of Biden's position.

Another article regarding the situation and options.

GOP is Anti-Big Business

I am sure this will end poorly for the GOP...

As this idiot notes, most big companies believe in respecting the rights of all citizens.  So maybe anti-free speech, anti-personal freedom GOPers will need to only spend at like minded businesses?

Since most American citizens value personal freedoms and honest history, it will be interesting to see how the GOP alternative history, controlling people and bigotted policies are received by the masses?  Especially as the old folks keep dying off. :-O

GOP Alienates Independents

According to Wall Street Journal, and as you know, I agree.

I do wonder what it will take to convince GOP voters to give up the nut case politicians and go back to supporting stable rational relatively honest and moral people like Mitt Romney, Larry Hogan, John Kasich, Liz Cheney, etc?

Is the Madness Over?

Or will the GOP continue the Insanity?

I think us Minnesotans made it pretty clear that we do not want conspiracy loving fear mongers representing us in our government.  And though I dread that the MN DEMs may think they have some kind of mandate, I hope they remember that moderates gave them this win and that we do not want "progressive" craziness either.  I would hate to feel a need to vote for the conspiracy loving crazies in 2 years... :-O

Hopefully the conservative voters finally agree to give Trump the boot. I mean if you want to hero worship a slightly crazy conservative, pick DeSantis...  Though I will continue to wish for a GOP electorate that supports ethical sane people like Romney, Liz Cheney, etc.

Hopefully Trump will be in jail at some point and we won't hear much from him. :-)

Remember to Vote

I saw an interview of a black man saying that he would not vote until a politician showed interest in him and his situation...  It seems that the young and poor do not understand this simple cartoon. 😮

FOX Scaring the Yokels with CRIME

Using BAD analysis and Cherry picked data.  The reality is that most of the available data is from 2020.

Listen to Fear Itself here for more details on how FOX is manipulating their viewers.

Even FOX admits that the data is incomplete and the spike occurred under Trumps Presidency.  So why are they beating a CRIME drum right before the election?

I ran into just how scared the yokels are recently when a Carrie Underwood concert was advertised on my Facebook.  There were commenters who were scared to come to the concert due to the rampant crime in the metro... :-O  Really !!! :-O

Now I have attended soccer, football and baseball games this Summer with no problem...

Then this "Law and Order" party down plays White Nationalist violence and the Pelosi attack, while helping to incite it

What Will GOP Do?

Trump cut taxes and increased spending, which increased the national debt by ~$7.5 TRILLION in just 4 years. With that much extra government borrowed money sloshing around in our country, no wonder we have inflation.  Not to mention all the extreme FED actions that Trump encouraged.

So what in the world do the GOPers have up their sleeves this time?

Cut taxes further?  Mortgage our children further

Has Polling Improved?

And is the GOP going to nominate sane normal politicians ever again

That is what I am curious about?

And though I am not a fan of Ellison...  But really...

Indict Trump and Hunter !!!

Maybe they could share a cell? :-)

Trump Update

Hunter Update

I truly appreciate how President Biden is letting the DOJ and FBI do their jobs.

Imagine what we would be hearing if Trump was President and they were investigating one of his kid's stupid likely illegal actions? :-O

Thankfully I do not watch much broadcast television...  And I still have seen too many stupids TV ads...

Gop Plan Lacks Details

As noted here. Yes people want less crime, lower inflation, stable social security / medicare, etc.

I actually watched this interview and I wanted Shannon to ask about deficits and the national debt when Rep. Stefanik mentioned more tax cuts and fewer IRS employees?

It is so disappointing that the GOP refuses to be the party of fiscal responsibility. :-(

Trump etal handed out trillions of dollars to people and companies that did not need it, and cut taxes while increasing spending.  And they try to blame others for inflation?

I assume there are still people who will vote for them and mortgage their kids further so they personally can pay less in taxes.  I hope I am never that selfish.

Trump Taxes / Lawsuit

Maybe he should have paid more taxes...

As a citizen who reports honestly and pays my fair share.  I will be more than happy if a tax cheat like Trump loses this civil suit and later goes to jail.

Mississippi vs MN Schools Again

A Gift from Jerry, who swears we should be more like Mississippi.

Just popped in to note that you can be bull-headedly wrong, and it seems pointless to try to educate you. Mississippi kids do BETTER

Of course then I went to the report card and found the following... So I do not know what the American Experiment author or Jerry are talking about...

Make Me President !!!

Trump's latest craziness.

Rupert Murdoch's NY Post Understands:

"Attorney General Merrick Garland’s raid on Mar-a-Lago has ex-President Donald Trump back in the news. That’s a problem for Republicans, who need to move beyond him," argued the tabloid, owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp.

The editorial said the current dynamics "should make for a Republican landslide" in the 2022 midterm elections.

But if the focus is on Trump instead, enraged Democrats will unite, pause their intercine warring while independents will abstain or vote against the GOP," the NY Post wrote.

In the tabloid's view, "most Republicans would rather the ex-president go away."

"Those GOPers know Trump’s already an albatross: His “stolen election” derangement in late 2020 is why Dems control the Senate now, and his endorsements in this year’s primaries have helped saddle Republicans with enough weak Senate candidates this year that retaking the chamber seems increasingly out of reach," the NY Post wrote. "Plus, for all the tens of millions Trump has raised since leaving the White House, he hasn’t yet spent any of it even to help the candidates he’s endorsed."

Now when will the responsible conservative citizens stop supporting liars and criminals?

And go back to keeping the government out of personal decisions..

A Real Correction Finally?

Loan Forgiveness Unfair?

According to Sen Blunt.  And I am undecided if that is the main problem with the policy.

I mean most of what the government spends money on is "unfair" to some group.  I mean is it fair:

  • to city folk that farmers get subsidized crop insurance?
  • to farmers that city folk build and subsidize light rail?
  • to wealthier tax payers that poor people are given welfare payments?
  • to renters that home owners get a tax write off?
  • to workers that owners get to write off depreciation early?
  • to pacifists that tax dollars are spent killing people?
  • etc, etc, etc...

Though I am against loan forgiveness...  It has more to do with personal responsibility and my fiscal conservative beliefs than fairness...  I mean:

Of course, Conservatives are the biggest hypocrite in the area. They are moaning about helping lower income folks with their school debt...  While supporting unpaid for tax cuts, wasteful PPP and other bailouts during the Trump years.

Does This Mean You or THEM?

Most folks will point at THEM... :-(  Even as WE keep demanding lower taxes and higher spending. :-O

Therefore stealing from the futures of our children.  Personally I think the Boomers and Gen X are some of America's least responsible citizens ever...  Give me mine and screw the country / world when I am gone. :-O

Trump vs Clinton FBI Search

GOPers Hypocritical Again.  And Hillary appears to be enjoying their stupidity.

If you do not remember, these same GOPers were demanding that the FBI search Hillary's private parts to look for confidential files.  And now they are crying foul as the FBI searches Trumps home, even though it was proven that he had taken other documents with him that he should not have.
