Noem Avoids #1 Death Rate Questions

on Face the Nation

MARGARET BRENNAN: So that's why I'm asking about your state. They have not said yes. So for your state, you have, if you look at starting in July, which was after that spring peak, you have the highest death rate in cumulative COVID deaths per million in the country. The CDC says you have the eighth highest death rate per capita now. I'm not talking about infection rates. I know you're conservative and you care about the sanctity of life. So how can you justify making decisions that put the health of your constituents at risk?

GOV. NOEM: And those are questions that you should be asking every other governor in this country as well.

Oh well, it is only dead South Dakotans...  And she has a Presidential run to think about

If you Can Not Beat China

Start a MASSIVE Trade War?  Apparently that is Senator Cotton's somewhat crazy proposal.

Now I greatly respect how much of an economic threat China is becoming, they are organized, focused, dedicated and don't spend tons of money / time arguing or supporting unproductive citizens.  They spend it on incredible airports, highways, railways, bridges, Research & development, etc.

However the idea of "cutting them off" has to be one of the silliest ideas I have ever heard of.  Even worse than what Trump was doing.  I mean it may have worked in 1980, but not anymore.

Texas GOP Blames Others

For their power problems.  I especially had to laugh when they inferred that wind power failed when it got cold.  I mean MN has thousands of turbines running year round with no problem.

Now the Governor wants answers...  Well the answers are well known apparently.  If one denies that severe weather events are more likely now days, and does not prepare for them...  They will have power outages.

Minimum Wage Consequences

Some win and many others LOSE.  Apparently Progressives are unwilling to accept this simple cause and effect logic.  If wages are raised to an arbitrary higher number:

  • other alternatives become more financially attractive.
  • be they automation, off shoring, alternative products / services
  • therefore many low skill jobs will be lost
  • and other higher knowledge / higher skill jobs may be gained
  • where the higher costs can not be offset by the above
  • the consumers will need to pay for the additional wages and benefits

I am not sure how their rationale works that they believe employers are going to stay stagnant and/or absorb the costs?

It is kind of like when Progressives encourage us to bring in millions of the Earth's uneducated and unskilled humans, while totally denying that it floods the lower end employment markets and drive wages down.  Didn't they take Economics 101?

And always, do you really think American Consumers are going to "Buy American" if those costs go up even further?

People are so puzzling and irrational. I mean ROBOTs are already taking over, do we really want to hurry that along? :-O

Noem Fights Will of the People

No marijuana for South Dakotans...  I guess GOPers are against democracy, reducing regulations and allowing free enterprise to thrive after all... :-)

"Amendment A would have legalized marijuana for recreational use and was approved by over 54 percent of South Dakota voters last November. Republican Governor Kristi Noem, a close ally of former President Donald Trump, opposed the legalization effort and moved to reject the amendment after it passed, arguing that it should be overturned on technical grounds."

The Lies of Biden and Trump

The Trump Supporters in my life are practicing serious rationalization again. :-(  They seem stuck between stages 4 & 5 in Moose's Denial list. It seems they are now willing to admit that Trump is a Liar, but they want to prove that he is "normal" and that Biden is no different.  So they send me proof that Biden Lies.  To which I answer, yes he is a politician... :-)

The problem is that Trump:

  • lies much more boldly (pants on fire)
  • repeats lies after proven wrong
  • never issues a correction or apology

Ben Sasse Rocks

Nebraska GOP is planning to censure him because he rejects its 'weird worship' of Trump

"You are welcome to censure me," Sasse said in the video. "But let's be clear about why this is happening. It's because I still believe, as you used to, that politics isn't about the weird worship of one dude."

Sasse first took office in 2015 and handily won his reelection campaign in 2020 with more than 67% of the vote. Trump also won the state, but his margin was lower, coming in at 58%.

Sasse said the reason he had more support in his home state than the former president was because "Nebraskans aren't rage addicts."

"Personality cults aren't conservative. Conspiracy theories aren't conservative. Lying that election has been stolen - it's not conservative," Sasse said.

It is ironic that people are angry about Sasse telling the truth about a chronic liar, and corrupt politician.

The GOP is definitely in trouble if this is the face of its supporters.  It is amazing how the supporters of Romney etal morphed into Trump conspiracy drones in 4 -8 years?

Big Checks per Kid?

Mitt Romney has a plan to give parents up to $15,000 a year. The Family Security Act would offer up to $350 per month, per kid, to help parents raise their children.

As you know, I am NOT a big fan of giving people tax dollars with no expectations or accountability measures.  Giving parent(s) money per each child may be a good idea if our goal is to increase family sizes, and/or enable a parent to stay home with their child(ren). Which are not bad goals...

However my goal as always is to ensure that all children are raised by capable, mature, emotionally stable, responsible, loving, etc adults.  I just don't see this helping to attain that goal unless it has some teeth to hold parent(s) accountable for doing their job.

I mean if the tax payers are going to pay them to raise educated, emotionally stable and productive future citizens.  What do we do about incompetent, neglectful, irresponsible, etc parent(s) who squander this wonderful gift from the tax payers?

Thoughts?

Trump's Big Opportunity

They want him to testify under oath next week.
I mean how can genius Trump turn this down?
He wants freedom of speech and a big platform.
This would be HUGE !!!
Of course, my guess is that he is CHICKEN !!! :-)
Like usual...

Tax the MN's Rich?

An interesting piece regarding Gov Walz's proposal.

I don't know much about it, however as I often say. It seems DEMs want to ensure the rich retired wealthy people are highly motivated to move their residency to another state. :-)

The good news !!! I have 3 daughters so I will probably never be rich. :-) Except in the love and hugs... :-)
