MN & RAS Education Updates

The politicians in St Paul appear to be busy working hard to do something about the K-12 education in Minnesota...  For better or worse...  Thoughts?

While Superintendent Sicoli seems to be leading the cheer squad.  I agree with being positive, however don't you think at least one slide should have covered the challenges we still face in the district?  I mean he was presenting to the School Board...

Here are some pictures from the MDE site that I would think should warrant a slide or two, and maybe some discussion.

John,

Are you reading the picture for Math and Science that RAS is BELOW AVG. compared to the rest of the State of MN Schools?

It appears that RAS was Above Avg. in Math prior to 2011??

Reading is about Flat!!

I am not sure. I'd have to find the State data for back then to confirm. Maybe the standards changed, and RAS and the state results both took a hit.

I guess my point is that it is odd that Sicoli did not note that we still have a long way to go... And the gap is still significant.

Imagine if Obama had only said how great things were during the State of the Union address. If he had totally blown off the deficit and national debt issues....

I would be curious to see if there was a spending chart to go along with these. Then maybe we could do a sort of "cause and effect analysis." By themselves, all this tells us is that we haven't gotten to an acceptable performance level in a time frame already too long. Not acceptable.
