I thought this was a wonderfully pragmatic look at the topic.

Though I don't think the Teacher's Unions or some others will like all the comments.

This doesn't really add a whole lot of perspective. I don't think anyone has proposed scrapping everything we have here and moving to a direct copy of Asian or Scandinavian models, merely that there are concepts that we could apply within our own system.
Nor do I see why the teacher's unions wouldn't like it. The writer's point is to say that we shouldn't assume that because that unions have low influence in Finland that reducing their influence in Australia would have an impact.
I agree that the Author did seem pro-Union, however his acknowledging the other opinions was interesting.
I especially liked his noting the importance of having kids/parents who value education and hard work is a key factor.
We have had commentors here that have used Finland as a good example.
Sure, there are elements of the Finnish model that we could incorporate, just as there are elements of the Asian models that we could incorporate. But I don't know of anybody who is calling for a scrapping of our system and saying that we should become "Finland 2.0" from an educational perspective.
