Thoughts at the Gas Pump

I stopped in Granite Falls to put gas in my F150 Crew Cab with the 3.5L dual turbo eco-boost engine.  I was happy to be getting around 23 to 24 mpg highway.  I was heading out to help Mom and Dad clean more storm damage at their Lake Home... (just branches down this time)

When the pump shut off at $150, I several different thought, questions and emotions.

I was thankful that I left my boat at home, since the truck's mpg drops significantly when pulling an extra 4,000 Lbs.  Not to mention that the boat also has a 32 gallon gas tank. 😮

Should I be happy or frustrated that my Mastercard shut the pimp off before the tank was full? 😮

Thankful that paying an extra $200 per month in gas bills means little to my household budget. 🙂

Empathy for those folks who are not so fortunate. 🙁

The thought has occurred to me that Trump was right, that we should have put America first, and left Ukraine to it's fate. Thereality is with Republicans taking control of Congress next year, all the support we have given Ukraine will prove to have been wasted. Putin may not have been right all along but he may be right lately.

I think the GOP has been supporting the Ukraine efforts.

It was only Trump who liked to lick Putin's boots.

I think they have been going along with Ukraine efforts. But they also want to cut the cost of gas and that can't really happen unless Russia is allowed back into the energy markets.

At this point what Putin is counting on is the return of Republicans to power. They are looking now at a Congress that will be controlled by former President Trump, and a Republican sweep in 2024. It's why they see no point in making a deal now.

So, you railed against the Trump tax cuts, so how do you feel about Biden's tax cut at the pump? Care to comment on the wisdom of draining the $2.00 gas from the SPR and, we hope, replacing it with $6 gas, while not noticeably affecting the price at the pump?

I guess I disagree with the gas tax holiday, since that money goes to maintaining roads...

I guess this is why we have the SPR, isn't it? The USA is engaged in a war with Russia, and that is causing financial hardship in the USA. Using them makes sense to me.

Please remember that I railed at Trump because:
- the economy was still recovering and cuts were not needed
- Trump and the GOP increased spending while cutting taxes
- this along with the massive COVID bail out led to RECORD breaking deficits

In this case we have a real problem of global inflation and a potential global recession, and all the GOPers are going to do is sit back a try to blame Biden. :-O

We agree the gas tax holiday is stupid. It's inflationary, and should be kept for a REAL strategic emergency. We should also agree the SPR release is stupid, since the amount released is almost exactly what the Keystone pipeline would have delivered, if Biden had not cancelled it for NO GOOD REASON.

If tax cuts are inflationary...

Does this mean that you finally agree that Trump's unnecessary tax cuts and massive cash hand outs were the primary cause for this mess?

Let the Canadians refine their own oil...

I agree Trump's tax cuts were good policy, simply because higher taxes are bad policy to begin with.

As for the Canadians, the belief that they will NOT sell that oil somewhere else, where it will be burned, rather than sell that excess production to us, is CDS-- Climate Derangement Syndrome.

Tax cuts are only good policy when they are off set by equal or greater spending cuts. Instead Trump dumped nearly $8 TRILLION of borrowed money into the already recovering economy.

No wonder we are struggling with inflation.

Or maybe the Canadians will refine it and send us gas, diesel fuel, etc.

Or they are probably using the existing pipelines and trains to send it to Texas.
