"a violent uprising against an authority or government."
It is frustrating that many GOP voters seem to be forgetting how contrived, violent and illegal the attack was. 😞😞😞 And how Trump actively incited and fanned the flames of the insurrection.
Of course, if a DEM President had done the same, those GOP voters would be screaming for blood.
I will never understand how humans can be so fickle, gullible and irrational?

What seems to be largely forgotten and what I remember is tha political instability that prevailed in the last year of the Trump presidency. If Trump is reelected, I expect that to return, in a much worse form. I think that would be particularly true, if Trump once again wins the presidency while losting the popular vote.
I believe the constitutional provisions which allow a candidate to win the presidency while losing the popular vote are a disaster in waiting. Twice in this century, the country has accepted minority presidents. I wonder if a third time will still be charmed.

Though I see some logic in the current rules.
I would not be upset if they changed to majority wins.
Just because something is logical doesn't mean it is right. Just because something is illogical doesn't meant it is wrong.
There are ways to rationalize the electoral college system. But it has failed us in profound ways. For one thing, it did not prevent an unfit person from becoming president, it's primary mission.

Unfortunately "fit" and "unfit" is in the eye of the beholder.
Since 10's of millions of American's seemingly want the Music man back again...
Former President Trump is arguing that the president is immune from any criminal prosecution. Apart from the legal issues involved, I wonder if anyone out there would want someone like Donald Trump to be exempted from the application of the criminal law.

His cult members do seem to think he would make a good Emperor... :-(
Here is a problem. If the Supreme Court rules that former President Trump is qualified to appear on the ballot, it is certain that I and people like me, will accept the ruling, perhaps unhappily, but without question. On the other hand, if the Supreme Court disqualifies Mr. Trump, numerous states will defy the Supreme Court's ruling and put Mr. Trump's name on the ballot anyway. This is why, incidentally, and apart from any legal reasoning, the Supreme Court is certain to rule in favor of the former president on the disqualification issue.

Well since he has not been found guilty of "insurrection" I am not sure he should be removed?
However I do agree people / states do seem interested in defying federal laws / rulings.
It seems that has been the case forever... (ie civil war, civil rights, abortions, tea taxes, etc)
I wonder if it is similar today to in the past?
