Trump Admin made citizens and businesses pay BILLIONs in illegal tariffs...(ie IMPORT TAXES)
And now the Trump Admin is fighting to keep the money from the rightful owners. Why are MAGA folks okay with government keeping their money?

People often claim taxation is theft. For me, that is incorrect. Theft is an unlawful taking, and if the tax is enacted under the color of law it is lawful, and there fore not theft. Tariffs are a tax, but as long as they were imposed under the color of law, they aren't theft. But what happens when that law color no longer exists? What happens to the tax going forward? More relevant here, what happens to taxes which were illegally imposed? Is unlawful keeping a crime?==Hiram
Since a judge has ordered that the illicit gains be returned, apparently this truly was an illegal tax... :-O
We aren't governed by the rule of law. That was part of the point of electing Trump. That i s part of the reason why we have discarded the notion of theft in the legal sense. I have had this discussion elsewhere, and what I have been told is about possession, not about property. If I possess something, if you try to take it away from me without my permission, you are committing theft. That concept of theft takes it out of the context of law. It becomes an issue of power.==Hiram
More scary, and for me, more depressing is that we have abandoned the concept of the rule of law in our politics. We kill peo ple, we attack countries, not on the basis of any legal authority but on the basis that we have the power to do so. We are exploring the implications of these issues now.--Hiram
