Cuomo's Tale of 2 Cities

Cuomo's Tale of 2 Cities

This is an excellent piece though it leaves me with our usual question...

How can America get minorities educated, financially stable and in 2 parent families?

Just giving them money is not the answer as we learned from the war on poverty.

Thought: How about money with strings (of steel) attached?

Unfortunately no one is going to let you starve the kids that you allow them to keep having.

I am surprised at how little outrage I am hearing about the looting, fires and property destruction. I am surprised John hasn't posted or commented about this.

Laurie,
It could be occurring on Mars for how much I know about it...

And if people and anarchists want to destroy their own communities it seems a bit like karma.

Minneapolis makes a lot of questionable liberal choices, I guess they have come back to roost unfortunately. :-(

Laurie,
I think we had better buckle up for a long stressful year.

Unfortunately I may have more destruction to write about. :-(

I don't see how you can ignore this story. Don't you watch the news. Don't you ever go into Mpls. It is very tragic. How can you not care at all?

Laurie,
I care, however the folks on the Far Right and Far Left are nuts and unwilling to work towards real solutions... So I try to just follow my favorite prayer.

Prayer for Serenity

God, grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time,
enjoying one moment at a time;
accepting hardship as a pathway to peace;
taking, as Jesus did,
this sinful world as it is,
not as I would have it;
trusting that You will make all things right
if I surrender to Your will;
so that I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with You forever in the next.

Amen.

For me the solution starts with the children.

And yet folks on the Left are okay with questionable people making and keeping babies. And they are adamant in their protection of public employee unions and questionable employees. While wanting to giving these questionable "parents" money when they make more babies. None of which ensures all kids are raised and educated well.

And the folks on the Right are okay with questionable people making and keeping babies. In fact they promote poor sex education and making birth control / first term abortions hard to get. So they actually actively support questionable people making and keeping babies. However they disapprove of society trying to help these kids and holding these questionable "parents" accountable. In fact they want to take the money ear marked for these communities / kids and give it to more engaged responsible parents. (ie vouchers) None of which ensures all kids are raised and educated well.

So unfortunately it is likely that poor and poorly educated people will continue to make babies and raise them poorly prepared to get a good job, have a stable family and riots will continue. :-(

Again... What is your solution to stop the inequality and suffering?

Benefits of Birth Control

A confused but interesting take on the topic No comment on what is best for the kids.

Somehow you want to make those "on the left and right" responsible for other people's choices, and relieve those other people of their responsibility for those choices. Why? What if those choosing sex without consequences to themselves (and serious consequences for their children), actually HAD consequences for having and properly raising those children? Consequences such as a requirement for employment, a requirement of men to support their children, mandatory drug testing and treatment for welfare recipients, etc.?

All I care is about the kids...

You seem much more concerned about adults...

jerrye92002 said...

Seems to YOU. I could say you don't seem to be concerned about adults. Or even human beings. You would have poor people spayed or neutered if you could, rather than offering them real opportunities to better their lives and the lives of their children.

jerrye92002 said...

It's becoming humorous to see you condemn "left and right" for "not working towards real solutions" while insisting that YOUR solutions--including poison pills for both sides-- are the ones they should agree upon. How about some solutions that are
win-win-win?

I want:
- conception to be planned and the parent(s) to want the baby

- the baby, toddler, preschooler to be cared in a stable safe home with access to nutritious food, appropriate development activities and good caring role models

- the school kids deserve the same plus parents who are interested in their education and can support it.

- Parent(s) are held accountable to the above threshold standards and not allowed to keep making / keeping more babies if they fail to meet them.

- Social support and educational staff who are adequately funded and held accountable for succeeding with these families and children.

I am flexible regarding how we as a society accomplish this.

John said...

My problem statement focus around ensuring children are raised well.

Unfortunately yours and the Lefts put the Adults first.

- Adults must be free to make and keep babies as they will.

- Adults public workers must be protected.

And then we wonder why so many screwed up kids are being raised by their screwed up parent(s).

Oh well, I will go back to my serenity prayer. :-(

Like I said, your preference seems to be to spay and neuter the adults, and to send the kids already born off to be raised by fabulous folks like yourself. Good luck with that. I prefer to treat the adults as adults, who love and want the best for their kids but either don't know how, or haven't had the opportunity to do better for them. Or both. If the best social construct is the "traditional family," then why are we not encouraging that to the maximum degree possible, rather than punishing the victims of the existing dysfunctions in society, making the situation WORSE?

jerrye92002 said...

Do you know the surest way to guarantee children are raised well? Put them in a stable and viable economic unit, the employed two-parent family. Now what about "sterilize one adult and jail the other," as you propose, furthers that end?

John said...

My policies focus on helping adults to be good parent(s) and giving them the tools to do so.

And the only people who will face the ultimate consequence of being "spayed or neutered" are the adults who choose to have far more kids than they can care for. Where as you seem to want to let them keep going, while withholding assistance and punishing the kids for their parent(s) irresponsibility. :-(

Which of course is the same backwards view you have regarding birth control and first trimester abortions. "The adult had sex, so they need to have the baby and deal with it." Definitely not focused on prevention or the child's welfare. :-(

1. Weaken or eliminate the Public Employee Unions. Their primary purpose is to ensure the senior employees make the most money, receive the best positions and are secure in their employment. These goals are NOT aligned with cost effectively getting the most help to the people who need it. Pay for performance, not years and degrees.

2. Set hard knowledge attainment and/or poverty reduction targets that the bureaucracy managers must hit, and replace them if they don't. No more of these employment contracts where Superintendents get huge buy out clauses when they fail. Pay for performance, not degrees.

3. Make Long Acting Reversible Contraception and the Morning After Pill free and readily available for all. NO baby should be born unless the Baby Maker(s) are 100% wanting the child and feel prepared to care for it. (ie committed to being responsible capable Parents)

4. If a proven irresponsible Baby Maker who is on welfare (ie Angel Adams) gets pregnant. She should be forced to abort or give the Baby up for adoption. And if this happens more than once, her tubes should be tied.

5. The welfare payments and service should be set up to make recipients work, learn, mature and improve their self sufficiency.

6. The male Baby Makers must bear the consequences of their behavior. The female Baby Maker must name the Father so the State can ensure the required child support is paid. The cost may be higher than the money received, but the "free loading Baby Daddy" behavior must be dissuaded.

7. The State must ensure that Baby Makers and the Babies receive training, care, etc until they become a functional family. (ie Parents and Kids) This includes mandatory Parenting classes, Early Childhood Education, Inexpensive quality childcare, etc. Many of the Baby Makers are in this position because their role models were Baby Makers (ie not Parents). Someone has to train them what it means to be a Parent.

Funny how repetition STILL does not change your approach from punishment to opportunity. Look at the verbs you use! "Weaken," "Set-must-replace," "make," "forced," "make (again)," "must bear, must name, must be," "must ensure, mandatory."

Show me in there anywhere that you recognize these are real human beings who will respond much better to incentives, sincerely offered, that will make their lives better?

John said...

This from the guy who wants to keep birth control hard to get and with hold money that is used to feed kids...

And yes this is about holding adults accountable for putting kids first.

Now let's see where you took the words from...

"Weaken" employee unions

"Set-must-replace" public employee accountability

"Make" birth control available

"forced" stop serial baby makers from making more kids they can not care for

"make" welfare recipients perform

"must" name father "must" pay child support

"must" take parenting courses

You are so amusing... You agree with half the positions...

jerrye92002 said...

"You agree with half the positions.."

Really? You know exactly what I believe on all of these simple-minded ideas, even though I have argued against more than half of them for years? Again, my argument is that you cannot force people to behave your way as easily (if at all) as you can offer them the OPPORTUNITY to make their own lives better. Pull rather than push. Why do you think we have front-drive cars?
