"How about a post on immigration? I want to know why there seems to be only two choices being discussed-- "send them all back" or a "path to citizenship" when a) it's a far more complicated situation (NOT amenable to a "comprehensive" bill, IMHO) and b) there are LOTS of choices in between those two extremes that make a lot more sense than either." J EwingI am short on time right now, however I might add some links and comments later.
Thoughts on what lies between "deport them all" and "reward them all with citizenship"?

Only two choices are being discussed because the media has only limited resources to cover the news, and a lot of those resources are devoted to coverage of Miley Cyrus.

Here's my favorite:

It's important to keep in mind that the passage of will create it's own solution to the immigration situation. As children of immigrants become more politically powerful, they will decide for themselves the policies that affect their parents and grandparents. Time is not on the side of those seeking to impose harsh policies on immigrants.

For your convenience.
FD Mandatory Amnesty
Sounds a whole lot like the "deport em all" plan.
Not really. All it does is get people "out of the shadows." What happens after that is TBD. To follow up:

Seems rational to me...
Don't think the Hispanic voters will buy it... Could be difficult to get the Republicans elected if we don't find something more soft and cuddly.
Apparently they don't like the idea of deporting Mom or Dad....
So what could we do or propose that would enable Republicans to actually win elections with a majority of the Hispanic vote?
The problem of deporting Mom or Dad has already been solved. Obama just decided he's not going to enforce that part of the law, either. Surely we can add his Oath of Office to his list of lies, now?
As for the Hispanic voters, I'm not concerned about them. If they're here legally, they should be in favor of the rule of law and vote accordingly. If they're here illegally, they're not supposed to be voting at all. Either way, I believe they will react positively to a reform plan that is fair to all concerned, and the only reason Republican plans such as the one outlined on FD are not liked by Hispanics is because the Democrats have TOLD them they don't like it.
"should vote accordingly..."
Since when have humans been that logical... And are we willingly to gamble the control of the house on it?
Who was it who said, "The American voters know what they want, and deserve to get it, good and hard"?
The success of any representative government depends on an informed citizenry, and I doubt that is what we have today, you are right in that. But there should be no excuse for our representatives not knowing what they are doing, because it's their JOB to know, to vote accordingly, and then explain it to us. Democrats do NOT know, the GOP fails to explain, and neither side votes according to what is right. My hope is that, in this case, the GOP House does what is right and can explain it well enough to keep power. If they don't, Obama will finish what he has started, the destruction of the USA as we knew it.
I agree that the FD proposal seems rational. I am just worried that we would win the battle while losing the war.
I just worry that we will never go to battle, knowing that we are in the right, for fear that the enemy will say bad things about us.
