Unapologetic Trump Apparently Learned Nothing

VOX Trump strikes a bitterly vindictive tone during National Prayer Breakfast speech
He showed up waving around a newspaper that read “ACQUITTED” — and things didn’t get more prayerful from there.

USA Today 5 things we learned (and still don't know) after the Trump impeachment saga

G2A Timeline of Events
Trump Attacks Romney

Apparently the usually "law and order" and "government / politicians" need to be transparent Conservatives are now okay with people "getting off" on process technicalities and politicians keeping their documents and witnesses hidden.  Who da thunk. :-(

And Trump is overjoyed by this change.  It will be interesting to see how bad his next abuse will be and how far the Conservatives will let him go....

I had one on FB justify his unwavering support of Trump because the DEMs were worse...  Like there are not any good GOP candidates who are actually honest?  He also thought I was a Democrat since I am against a lying sleazy GOP politician...  It is SO SAD... :-(

What Trump knows about is what he can get away with. What he learned from this experience is that he will be allowed to get away with anything. Trump is a psychopath. it is always a mistake to give a psychopath power, particularly one without accountability.

Trump vs Romney Election Results

Hiram,
You may be correct...

"psychopath: a mentally unstable person
especially : a person having an egocentric and antisocial personality marked by a lack of remorse for one's actions, an absence of empathy for others, and often criminal tendencies"

I had always just thought he was a narcissist, but...

The message I am getting this morning is that Trump, the acquitted, is strong, and Democrats, mismanagers of the Iowa caucus are weak. Sure Trump is bad guy, but in a bad world, we need a bad guy in charge. It's an argument that could and I am sure was, used to justify a vote for Hitler, for Mussolini. I am sure it helps to explain why Stalin lasted so long, and helps explain his current popularity in Russia. It helps explain Putin's electoral success.

We talk about freedom, the constitution, sweet land of liberty and all that stuff. City on a hill. But 63 million Americans, not a majority, but hardly an insignificant number, voted for Donald Trump. His approval rating currently stands at 49%. What does that say about us as a nation?

This is an excellent and disturbing piece that seems relevant...

We the people seem to get what we ask for...

Should a president be a good person? Or is it okay if the president is evil in an evil world?

Did Jesus just go too far?

Does the acquittal of Donald Trump and the events that followed establish precedents for Mr. Trump and future presidents? Is it now okay to solicit foreign intervention in American elections? Must abuse of power take the form of an actual crime in order to be impeachable?

"Is it now okay to solicit foreign intervention in American elections?"

I'm guessing it's only OK if you're a Republican. If Joe Biden or somebody were to go to China and say "hey, if you get into Trump's unsecured personal phone we can go easy on these tariffs", they would be strung up so fast it would make your head spin.

I did find something that Mr. Anti-Corruption Guy might want to look into...

WaPo:Secret Service has paid rates as high as $650 a night for rooms at Trump’s properties

Details like this seem important:

"The full extent of the Secret Service’s payments to Trump’s company is not known. The
Secret Service has not listed them in public databases of federal spending, as is usually
required for payments over $10,000."

and

"The Secret Service is required to tell Congress twice a year about what it spends to protect Trump at his properties.

But since 2016, it has only filed two of the required six reports, according to congressional offices. The reasons, according to Secret Service officials: key personnel left and nobody picked up the job.

Even in those two reports, the lines for Bedminster and Mar-a-Lago were blank."

and

"Also: Why did the Secret Service spend so much at Trump’s D.C. hotel, a place where —
unlike Bedminster and Mar-a-Lago — Trump has not stayed overnight since taking office?
In response to records request from NBC News, the Department of Homeland Security
released a listing of 39 payments there during Trump’s first year, totaling $159,000."

Trump is corrupt but that was always part of his appeal. And he is the beneficiary both is and widely perceived as corrupt. In this sense he doesn't stand out. There was sort of a subsidiary argument here, that Trump, someone adept at corrupting the system would be able to root out the tactics and strategies he used to corrupt it, but that idea has pretty much disappeared.

What he has learned is that he has to be more careful in not leaving an evidence trail when he does something illegal. It was really the problem with the Ukraine deal. He was just way too candid about what his motives. Had he instead shrouded what he was doing in a bit more ambiguity,, he would have avoided the whole mess.

Given Bill Barr admitting yesterday that they've set up an official DoJ route for taking in the Giuliani dirt dumps, I'm not sure that's the case. I recall it wasn't that long ago that these same folks tried to string up Bruce Ohr for taking in stuff from Christopher Steele.
