Also, the school really screwed up by not searching his backpack the morning of the shooting.
Yes the school bears some of the responsibility, though these parents were terrible, especially the Father.
Why I always blame the gun owner for not adequately securing the weapons.
There was a rumor at my school that a student was making some kind of threat. The investigation involved the police and the parents and making sure the student did not have access to a weapon and searching locker and backpack. Nothing came of it.
While I don't have all the information about the Michigan shooting, it seems like maybe the school could have prevented it.

I predict that parents of the shooting victims will sue the school for negligence and win a settlement. If I was one of the parents I would sue.
I am certain they will sue the district and everyone who has deep pockets.
It is the American way...
In most cases I would not sue the school, but in this case, where they failed to search the backpack, that is a huge and deadly mistake.
Humans are prone to errors, especially when the parent(s) neglect to mention that they just bought their minor a gun.
