The Proof is in the Vote

Often folks here like to accuse me of being a Conservative, where as I see myself as a slightly right leaning moderate with slight libertarian leanings. Well today I voted across the board...  I voted for the DEMs in the National races, the GOPs in the State races,  Yes for the District 281 referendum and ignored all those local offices that I know NOTHING about...

My rationale was very simplistic:
  • Why vote for people if I have ZERO knowledge
  • MN is too Liberal for me, some years of GOP dominance could help the State.
  • The national GOP has lost its mind and needs some DEM moderation
Now my GOP friends and family will likely disagree with me, however I think Trump is poisoning our party. Here is my evidence:
Until we find a way to get a Third Party in the Middle, I guess my goal is to keep the Far Left and Far Right balanced so neither can do too much damage.  Though that is going to create its own problems.

Just curious... Did anyone else vote for someone outside their tribe?

In this election, no. There were lots of bad GOP candidates. For instance, I could have seen myself voting for a reasonable GOP candidate for Attorney General. But that person wasn't on the ballot -- Doug Wardlow was.

I voted straight dem all the way. My best source of info predicts dems will retake the legislature.

Laurie,
Which legislature?

MN House
MN Senate
US House
US Senate

All of the above?

Sean,
The option was Ellison or the other guy... That seemed easy.

Of course last time it was Clinton or the other guy... :-)

Wardlow is farther right than Ellison is left.

Now we know that you're not really what you say you are, John.

Ellison Endorsements

I mean something wrong if the AG candidate can not convince the police officers to vote for him... :-)

John said...

Moose,
You have got to be kidding, there are only 3 people Left of Ellison in the whole House of Representatives...

Wardlow Positions

Ellison Positions

It kind of sounds like Ellison is one of those Open Border / Eliminate ICE folks...

"Stand With Our Immigrant Neighbors
Minnesota has a proud immigrant tradition, from those seeking economic opportunity to those fleeing violence abroad. As Attorney General, I will fight efforts by the Trump Administration to remove protections from DREAMers who contribute so much to our economy and society. I will ensure that our immigration detention system is humane, and free from mistreatment, and will prioritize efforts to reunite families who were heartlessly separated at the border. I will stand up to the un-American, discriminatory Muslim Travel Ban. Our country is at its best when we welcome those fleeing horrendous conditions, not when we fan the flames of bigotry and division."

Moose,
You forgot to answer the question... Did you vote with your tribe?

I assume the answer is yes, but I would enjoy being surprised.

my source predicted that mn house would go dfl and that we would win the special election to retake the mn senate. As for Congress I think the predictions about house - dem and senate- GOP will be correct.

I think Walz is highly likely to win

I hope you are wrong at the state level. :-)

"Did you vote with your tribe?"

I voted based on my sense of morality, fairness, and justice. You apparently played games with your votes. How privileged you are to be able to play games rather than worry about your life or the lives of your loved ones.

Moose,
Does that mean you voted for "free stuff" for you and yours?

Anonymous said...

I never vote for free stuff. I vote for equality, fairness, and justice, among other morally correct viewpoints.

Usually that means...

Taking from Peter...

and

Giving to Paul...

With little or no consideration to Peter or Paul's life choices...

These are some incredibly loaded words... This may become a future post. :-)

"equality, fairness, and justice"

"With little or no consideration to Peter or Paul's life choices..."

Because people choose to be black, poor, sick, gay, born in a dangerous country, etc. etc...

However, some people do choose to be "Christian" racists, sexists, xenophobes, homophobes, etc. etc.

All of that is part of my consideration when voting. I don't play games with my votes like you do.

Yes it is easier to vote when you really don't need to think...

You just need to check the box with your Tribal identifier next to it.

More on "equality, fairness, and justice" later...

I thought about and researched every single race on my ballot. EVERY one....unlike you. I made the choice that made the most sense based on the values I have presented here and which I live in my daily life.

And as usual...you are more interested in ineffectual government than good government.

Based on what government has done and / or undone in the past 17 years.

I think grid lock would have been better for us and our children.

That's moronic.

Oh come now... Look at the history under Bush, Obama and Trump... I am pretty sure we would be in no worse position if they had just... "kept the lights on"

- They all contributed to our huge National Debt.

- Healthcare is still a challenge for many.

- SS, SSD and Medicare are still headed for failure.

- The schools and social service systems are still failing millions of unlucky kids every year.

- US jobs/pay are still weak and Trade deficits are still huge.

And remember that they did not even get you LGBT Rights... That was SCOTUS...

Incorrect. SCOTUS merely responded in kind to the growing consensus among the States by ruling in favor of the Constitution.

It could have taken decades or longer for every state convert...

Nope it was just one Justice who made it happen.
