Women and the GOP

Vogue Why Do White Women Keep Voting for the GOP and Against Their Own Interests?

Rarely do I actually get angry when I read articles, however this one was so condescending to women that disagree with the author that it raised my blood pressure a bit.  This Tammy Bruce response describes my views pretty well.

FOX News 'Unsisterly': Vogue Asks Why White Women Keep Voting for GOP, 'Against Their Own Interests'  Must-see response from Tammy Bruce.
Now given Trump's behaviors and the failure of the GOP to control him, I can understand why women are leaving the GOP. (ie "grab pussies", separate families, supporting Kavanaugh, attacking Ford, etc...)
However the DEMs are going to have a hard time attracting more women as long as they keep supporting all abortions, weak borders, more welfare w/ few expectations, etc.

I think white women vote for Trump for the same reasons others do. They feel he can provide new and innovative solutions to the issues that gridlock Washington. If I were to vote for Trump it would be for reasons like that.

Agreed...

And they like me may disagree with the DEM platform or candidate...

That was probably why the article frustrated me. The author's seeming belief that all women should agree with her... And if they do not, they must be simple women in thrall to the men in her life.

Republicans really don't disagree with the Democratic platform. They just don't have the same priorities.

I think everyone should agree with me. I have found that a lot of people on the other side of debates think I should agree with them, which is not something I have a problem with. I think most people think that way. But the fact is, they don't. That's why we have elections and politics and stuff like that.

I am pretty sure most GOPers disagree with much of the DEM platform...

Or we would not need politics...

I am sure there are elements of it they might have a problem with it, but party platforms are not documents designed to be disagreed with. It's more the case that they are designed to be ignored.

As far as the rhetoric goes, I often find myself in agreement with Republicans. They oppose cuts in Medicare. I do too. They favor insurance coverage for pre-existing health conditions. So do I. Trump was a fierce advocate for using the power of the federal government to drive down drug prices, something I strongly support. I suspect I am far more sympathetic ti the president's protectionist trade views than many Republicans. Like Trump, I feel capitalism has failed many regions of this country, the areas where now he gets the most support.

There are differences on social issues of course. But I think you will find that the people who finance the Republican Party agree a lot more with people like me than they disagree. Those aren't the issues on which Republicans rank high in sincerity.

with Trump leading the GOP anyone voting for a GOP candidate is making a big mistake and obviously voting against their interests (which includes a functioning democracy)

for whom did you vote for congress, John?

John said...

I already told y’all...

John said...

And the government seems to be working fine.

Well except for those obstructing DEMs. :-)

I don´t think the president should be trying to interfere with counting votes.

¨President Trump said the races for the U.S. Senate and governor should be called for Republicans, alleging without evidence that many ballots are missing and forged and that an “honest vote count” was no longer possible. Florida officials say they have found no evidence of criminal conduct.¨

Thankfully our system of government limits the power of idiots from either party. :-)

God Bless America !!!

Trump is uniquely idiotic, corrupt, and racist. The dems have no one like him. Why do you keep trying to portray the parties as equally bad, when they clearly are not at this time.

John said...

I am not sure if Trump is idiotic, corrupt, and racist...

I think he says what he thinks will manipulate his followers into doing as he wishes.

And so far he has done pretty well at leading them around by the nose. Unfortunately for the GOP, there are not enough of them to keep the GOP in control...

Do you think Trump is cynical? Was voting for him an act of cynicism? Are you really undecided as to whether Trump is corrupt? If you are uncertain that Trump is a racist, do you have an opinion as to whether he exploits racism in others?

Cynical
1. believing that people are motivated by self-interest; distrustful of human sincerity or integrity.

2. concerned only with one's own interests and typically disregarding accepted or appropriate standards in order to achieve them.

Yes
No
Yes

I think racism is the wrong word for most of our discussions.

Racism: prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior.

Being against illegal entry individuals is not necessarily Racism... Being against letting people from high risk pools or poor people into the country is not necessarily racism.

Wanting only legal immigrants who meet our country's needs is just logical and pragmatic.

Supporting and rewarding illegal entry with sanctuary and pardons is just feeling and illogical.

Supporting legal immigration based primarily on need and family is also not necessarily in the best interest of the American people.

Donald Trump has literally done dozens of other things besides "being against illegal entry individuals", though, that leads one to suggest he is racist.

John said...

After reading this... I may need to change my mind... Though it is a bit hard to find out much about the author...

Laurie said...

Do you pay any attention to all the racist things Trump says? Either your not paying attention or you are racist yourself and cannot recognize racism when you hear it. Trump has been very racist towards black women, espeically. Calling poor people (mostly women and children) looking for a better life invaders is more racism.

Laurie,
Trump saying that someone is stupid or lazy because they are Black is racism...

Saying that you do not want a large number of poor people to illegally or questionably enter the USA is not necessarily racism...

Trump telling 3 Black women reporters that their questions are terrible and that they are stupid may likely be racist and/or sexist.

Trying to cut welfare and force people to improve / become independent responsible citizens is not racist.

Unfortunately Liberals throw the racism card at white folk so often that it has little meaning...

John said...

Except for of course the irony that you are being prejudiced against white folks you have never met... (ie racist)

Laurie said...

What makes conservative policy choices racism is the specific language Trump uses while talking about it. To me to ignore, or worse support, TrumpÅ› racism makes one racist.

I must have missed that in the definitions... But please feel free to continue stereotyping, name calling, villifying and looking down on a whole group of White people you have never met... I'll keep giggling at the irony. :-)

"Racism: prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior."

"Racist: a person who shows or feels discrimination or prejudice against people of other races, or who believes that a particular race is superior to another."

Laurie,
That is odd... But I am here for you...

MJ Hate Crimes Up

Maybe hate crimes are tied to economic prosperity?

I mean they dropped during and after the recession...

Now they are not quite back up to that level...

So how do you perceive the fact that the biggest increase is anti-Semitic....

When Trump is pro Israel and pro-Jewish? (ie family members are Jewish)

Because Trump attacks "the other", and Jews have always filled that role. The way Trump deals with anti Semistism is somewhat indirect, and perhaps unintentional. He works in stereotypes and language that historically has had anti Semitic implications without realizing it, and which are somewhat deniable. The anti ASntisemitism is often much more blatant among his supporters.
