Of course, the President is lying about this being "a brand new demand". The provision regarding detention beds was in the initial Democratic proposal from now over two weeks ago.
Why do Liberals want these folks wandering our country?
Possible solution
Trump Preaching to the Choir
It could have been so easy. Everybody knows what is needed to secure the border, end the drug, sex and human trafficking. Fencing some places, monitored vehicle barriers in others, enhanced technology at the ports of entry, detention beds, and an increase in personnel, both guards and judges, etc. But Democrats do not want this obvious and objectively correct solution. Intent on a political "win" regardless of how bad it is for the country as a whole.
It just takes a lot of effort, nobody seems willing to pay for.

I have heard Democrats explain how they understand a barrier is needed, how a fence is better than a wall, how some areas difficult to fence could be done with electronic fencing of some sort, how we need to enhance detection (technology) at the points of entry and how we need to address the massive court backlog. But they won't do it because Trump wants it. /sigh\

I have not heard of any DEMs supporting a wall / barrier...
They seem fine with asylum seekers crossing the border Willy Nilly.
And yes there is funding for technology. Especially at the border crossings where most of the smuggling occurs.
As for not wanting it because Trump wants it...
Who can blame them... He has been a big DINK towards them...
"Double Income No Kids"? How does that apply? And is it really inappropriate for somebody to ask Congress to DO ITS JOB?
You may not have heard what I heard, because the radio talk shows are full of sound clips from prominent Dems saying exactly that. Now they are claiming that Trump gets nothing out of this new deal. The reduction in beds has already been taken out. My bet is Trump ends up with a win for TAP (The American People), and making Dems look like the enemy.
No... DINK... Annoying person...
The only people who will see Trump as the "hero" are the 40% who already support him.
And some of them will be unhappy that he caved.
Well, it's 46-52% now. But you assume they will be unhappy based on Fake News. The wall is being built, it will continue to be built, and it WILL get done.
Where do you get these strange numbers?

As for the wall... Only time will tell, but since Congress has the power of the purse... I would not hold my breath if I were you.
Frankly I think that is the problem. Congress tackles every issue as something to throw money at, rather than to decide how best to solve a given problem. For example, how did they decide that 1.375 billion was exactly the right amount of wall to be built? It wasn't a practical or even informed decision, was it? Most right-wing pundits are expressing the opinion/belief that Trump will take the money, let the contracts and then "find" the rest of the money easily.
It is funny that illegal immigration is at a modern low and you want to SPEND money on a border wall.
