Trump to Testify Under Oath?

I have to wonder what an oath means to a serial liar like Trump?
Does he even know when he is stating an untruth?
Do you think we will get to hear his version of the truth?
Or is his statement just another lie?

CNN Trump Wants to Testify Under Oath

And the true Trump Believers still puzzle me.  They keep coming to his aid to defend his amoral behavior no matter what is uncovered.  Now I agree that Stormy Daniels is smoking hot, but that does not excuse Trumps behavior.

Washington Examiner Stormy Daniels Feels Bad
CNN Graham say Trump is a Changed Person

Why is it so hard for them to say that the man is a snake, but he is our snake?

When it comes down to it, I find it hard to see a way through for Trump to be interviewed by law enforcement authorities. Trump said yesterday, off the cuff, that he would be interviewed, but I expect unacceptable conditions to emerge soon, or for Mueller to be fired. Certainly, Trump and his media allies have laid the groundwork for simply refusing to be interviewed even with a supbpoena.

I don't think Trump is capable of telling a consistent story at this point, which makes him vulnerable to perjury traps. If he weren't president, in these circumstances, he would certainly take the fifth amendment. In normal circumstances, with a normal president covered by a normal, that would be politically disastrous. But for Trump I am far from sure of that. His base support has swallowed much worse, and with Fox behind him, taking the fifth might just be a storm he could weather.

Anyone around here who would continue to support Trump if he refuses to be interviewed, defies a subpoena, and/or fires Muller?

Trump delivers on some of the matters that are of greatest importance to huge parts of his base. He will appoint conservative Supreme Court justices who will overturn Roe v. Wade, From that perspective, unconditional support for Trump is perfectly rational.

In economic terms, Trump is doing exactly what a different portion of his base want. He is lowering corporate taxes. That not only means thousand dollar bonuses for employees, but huge pay increases for managers. Some money might even be left over for stock holders which has the effect of pressuring stock prices higher. It's a free lunch for all of us. What could possibly be the objection?

The oath thing. I don't know if that makes a lot of difference. It's a crime to lie to a federal investigator, whether the individual is under oath or not. Typically, people interviewed by the cops aren't under oath. That's something that happens at formal legal proceedings, a deposition, or where criminal investigations are concerned, while testifying before grand juries.

Trump, IMO, will try to negotiate the terms of the interview. He will want to limit the scope of the questioning. He won't want to talk about his private business affairs. He might very well ask that prosecutors agree not to prosecute him for any statements he makes during the interview. He will want his lawyer present, a right he doesn't have if he were to testify before a grand jury. As I often have said, politicians use the imposition of unacceptable or impossible preconditions to provide them with cover for not doing what they say they will do. Trump does this a lot, as with his famous promise to release his tax returns when the government is done auditing him. This reliance on undisclosed reservations is one of many reasons Trump can't be trusted.

I am fine with firing him anytime and putting Pence in the White House.

If it in 2020, the options are a Liberal Candidate or our own lying womanizing bragging President. I don't know what I would do.

I absolutely detest the man's lack of character, however over all most things seem to be heading in the "right direction".

One conservative friend pointed out that we elect presidents, not pastors. He seemed impressed by that reasoning...

Really? It's pretty apparent what you're willing to overlook.

Yes I can live with a lying, bragging and womanizing politician who seems to be able to achieve positive results.

Should I prefer an honest ineffective politician who strives to take America towards Social Democracy?
