What is Wrong with Work Requirements

From Laurie:
Here is an off topic link for John about what is wrong with work requirements
The GOP’s cruelty toward the poor is paying dividends in suffering

"Pose that choice to a Republican official — Is it better for someone to get health coverage from the government than to go without coverage at all? — and see what they say. Or you don’t even have to do that. You just have to watch what they’re doing."

The reality is that it is "other tax payers" and not the government who pays the cost. If they are healthy, I would like to see them working and paying taxes.

"But all this is just the beginning. Especially if Democrats take back one or both houses of Congress this fall, Republicans will know that their dream of repealing the ACA is dead for all time. In response, they’ll ramp up efforts to punish the poor, with Medicaid work requirements and who knows what else. More people will lose their coverage and more people will suffer. I’d ask whether the Republicans’ cruelty knows any limit, but I think we know the answer."

It is strange how insisting that people work in order to be given stuff is consider a punishment. Does that mean that my company is punishing me?

you seem to have missed the details that explain that most people who receive Medicaid are working, but many are kicked off because they have barriers to jumping through the hoops required to keep their health coverage.

Once again you have focused on the problem that there may be a few able-bodied people receiving benefits that they don't deserve. While I think (and the article explains) the bigger problem is that a much larger number of eligible and deserving people lose their insurance because verifying that they qualify is difficult for them.

Laurie,
Yes, I am focused on lazy and/or dysfunctional people who are stealing from us tax payers and are a drag on our economy and limit their children.

I believe that it is important for the good of children and country that we push / pull every citizen into being a productive responsible citizen.

Instead of pushing them to learn, work harder, take responsibility for their lives and become independent, you seem to prefer enabling their laziness and/or dysfunction in an effort to keep them dependent.

And since you support government solutions, I would think that you would trust that the "hoops" are manageable... And most libraries have free internet...

As we have discussed before... If one of your children had become one of the many of our lazy and/or dysfunctional citizens, would you just keep paying them into adulthood with no work requirements?
