Now if Trump had offered a Path to Citizenship for the DACA and Temporary Asylum folks, he could have won the hearts and minds of many Americans and gotten his ~$6 Billion for wall. Or he could have moved public perception to blame the DEMs if the shutdown continues. Instead the idiot offered a non-starter that only his True Believers will think was a "Fair Trade" and honest attempt to break the gridlock.
Where as the most of us will recognize it as another terrible move by someone who was supposed to know how to negotiate. I am guessing the next 2 years are going to be real long for him he does not learn, mature and develop some humility.

And if he had promised free unicorn rides to everybody, he could be popular, too. How about this: No path to citizenship for ANYBODY that has ever entered illegally.
Let's bear in mind that while DACA kids may have entered the country illegally, they did not commit a crime and did not do anything wrong.

Depends on how you define "childhood arrival." The 16-year-old with neck tattoos and a mac-9 in his waistband, who crosses alone, is no "child."

DACA Requirements
Individuals who meet the following criteria can apply for deferred action for childhood arrivals:
are under 31 years of age as of June 15, 2012;
came to the U.S. while under the age of 16;
have continuously resided in the U.S. from June 15, 2007 to the present. (For purposes of calculating this five year period, brief and innocent absences from the United States for humanitarian reasons will not be included);
entered the U.S. without inspection or fell out of lawful visa status before June 15, 2012;
were physically present in the United States on June 15, 2012, and at the time of making the request for consideration of deferred action with USCIS;
are currently in school, have graduated from high school, have obtained a GED, or have been honorably discharged from the Coast Guard or armed forces;
have not been convicted of a felony offense, a significant misdemeanor, or more than three misdemeanors of any kind;
and do not pose a threat to national security or public safety.
Applicants will have to provide documentary evidence of the above criteria. In addition, every applicant must complete and pass a biographic and biometric background check.

You are questioning the motives and circumstances of children who are / were 15 years and younger instead of just reaching out to help them.

I am happy to give you the benefit of the doubt, however it is hard sometimes.

The entire premise of DACA was that these kids were "brought here by their parents at a young age." A 15-year-old who walks across the border alone does not qualify, period. Those who have lived here essentially all their lives WITH their parents, and have essentially become Americans, knowing nothing else, and kept their noses clean, should get some sort of permanent residency AFTER they turn 18. Anything else is misguided compassion overriding common sense.
And I am curious about something. Let's suppose we give all these "DACA kids" PR cards. I assume they would have to apply to get them? And when they do, do we immediately deport their parents for illegal presence?
So you are saying an orphaned or abandoned 15 year old does not deserve mercy and care?
However if a 15 year old is brought across the border by the parent(s) does? How does this make sense to you?
I am fine deporting the Parent(s) immediately if the children are now adults as many of them are.
But of course given limited resource deportation priorities apply as always.

Not only was this deal on a non-starter under the terms Trump announced, but now that it has been put into bill form, it's even worse:
* only covers those who were accepted into DACA before Trump shut it down; not all who are eligible for DACA
* eliminates the ability for Central Americans to apply for asylum at the border
* limits asylum grants to 15,000 per year
