No Collusion, Plenty of Obstruction...

Lawfare Obstruction of Justice in the Mueller Report: A Heat Map

I think Mueller made it plenty clear that he thinks Trump obstructed or tried hard to obstruct justice...

Of course the Trump True Believers will deny this, even though if Obama had done the same things they would have been the one bringing the rope.  Why are people so hypocritical?  :-)

The flaw, or at least the fissure in our law, is a guilty state of mind is required for the conviction of a crime. It is the hugest loophole. Experienced malefactors are aware of this and devote great skill and effort (and a lot of billable attorney hours) to avoid the culpable mental state. Trump, whose gifts, do not include a gift for subtlety, is unable to conceal the extent to which he avoids knowing the things he shouldn't know, almost always successfully.

Quite simply, Trump says if you can't prove it, it can't be true. And over the decades Trump has learned how to do things without leaving a trail of evidence.

Or...

His "State of Mind" is so shallowly focused on his immediate gratification...

That it is hard to prove there is any intent other than self pleasure...

"Oooh there is porn start, let's get busy..."
"Oooh there is a crowd, let's make them cheer..."

Does one need to intend to obstruct in order to obstruct?

As far as I can tell, obstruction is obstruction. State of mind is irrelevant. I mean...we can prove that he obstructed an investigation. That's all that matters.

But for all his attempts to obstruct...

The investigation was completed.

Thankfully it seems that smart people ignored his attempts.

It's no less a crime because it was unsuccessful.

"The investigation was completed."

Well, yes, but Trump's obstructive behavior may have prevented a full set of findings on Part I of the report.
