Christianity and Border Crossings?

Here are some interesting pieces ...

VOX The border is in crisis. Here’s how it got this bad.

VOX The US has made migrants at the border wait months to apply for asylum. Now the dam is breaking.

FOX Border arrests skyrocket in May, as officials declare 'full-blown emergency'

And for some historical perspective.

PBS Trump’s Mexico tariffs would affect U.S. consumers. Would they also slow immigration?

Guardian: Fleeing the Hell USA Helped to Create

It seems the US fight against the Communists and our desire for drugs have really made unbearable for many in Central America...

So how can we best help people and stop the illegal flow of migrants?

Especially you supposedly Christian folks out there who are tasked with caring for the poor and down trodden?

How can we best care for people? is more the Christian sort of a question.

Hiram,
Jesus told Christians to care for the poor, but unfortunately a lot of people who claim to be Christians seem to be more worried about caring for themselves and vilifying the poor.

Then there are the Liberals who seem to want to force other people to care for the poor rather than putting their money, time and sweat where their mouth is...

It is an interesting topic.

A conservative FB acquaintance finally dropped me after I questioned his post about how all these "invaders were terrible"...

I asked a simple question...

How should the American military have greeted your great grand parent's ship when it arrived at a US port?

Should have they have been greeted by a naval blockade or cannon balls?

I mean all of our immigrant ancestors just showed up uninvited...

That did not make them evil or invaders...

Deporting them once they arrive is fine with me...

However remember they are desperate hopeful
humans like our ancestors were...

And treat them with the respect they deserve...

It is regrettable that Christianity isn't more popular with Christians.

This is false.

Let's say you have 1,000,000 poor people to take care of.
Let's say it costs $10,000 to take care of each poor person for a year.
That comes to $10B for a year to care for those poor.

How many people will it take using their own money to cover that cost? 1? 10? 100? 1,000,000? The entire tax-paying population?

Only a communal effort will be able to meet the need.

Let's say that 40% of voters are Liberal to some extent...

That would be ~100,000,000 adults...

If they gave even 5% to charity that would be great...

Unfortunately they are more likely to give ~2%...

Hiram,
The irony of course is that many of the fleeing people are likely Christians themselves...

And yet the Religious Right folks turn their backs on their fellow Christians...

I assume that the pearly gates may not be very pearly for these hypocrites. :-)

They like Jesus, but many people feel that in certain areas, He just went too far.

That is likely very true

And it started long before Jesus

VOX US / Mexico Immigration Deal

CNN US Mexico Deal

I like this one...

"Senate Majority Chuck Schumer jabbed Trump's repeated return to the issue, tweeting Friday night: "This is an historic night! @realDonaldTrump has announced that he has cut a deal to 'greatly reduce, or eliminate, Illegal Immigration coming from Mexico and into the United States.' Now that that problem is solved, I'm sure we won't be hearing any more about it in the future." :-)

Now here is a twist...

"The Mexican government had pledged to deploy the National Guard nationwide with a focus on its southern border -- a key part of Friday's agreement -- during secret meetings in March between former Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen and Mexican interior secretary Olga Sanchez in Miami, the officials told the Times."

I don’t understand why this is even interesting. It’s perfectly logical, given that Liberals believe in the good things we can do as a community (government). They already give money to charity through the government. It’s not forced. We vote and we have representatives who make decisions in government.

Moose,
That is probably the saddest part... The thought that people see government as similar to a charitable organization.

Though I acknowledge that government services are needed due to a lack of charitable giving and the need to care for truly disabled people.

Charities are much more effective at helping people truly change their lives.

Unfortunately I think Liberals are just selfish and short sighted...
