Mark Sanford for President?

NBC Mark Sanford Interview

GovTrack Mark Sanford

I would need to learn more about him and his positions, but he makes sense to me.

Yes he and his wife did have problems, he did have an affair, they did get divorced, etc.

He seems a lot like half the divorced husbands out there... Though they had to go through the whole thing in front of a camera. :-)

Sanford did raise an interesting issue for me when he said basically that even though Trump was unfit to be president, he would vote for him in preference to any Democrat. This is a question I have asked myself. If my party, the Democratic Party had nominated someone unfit to be president, would I still vote for him in preference to the Republican. Trump was a lifelong Democrat. Let's say he ran for and won the Democratic Party nomination in 2012 and faced Mitt Romney in the general election. Would I have voted for Trump despite his unfitness for the presidency? My answer would have been no. I didn't like Mitt's politics, but he was a credible candidate, not unfit to be president. That holds true for people like John McCain, Bob Dole, and even George W Bush, although that was a closer case. Why are things so different for the other side? What does Sanford see as so awful about Democrats that he would vote for someone like Trump?

Hiram,
Sanford has been very critical of Trump and wants his party / tribe to truly look at itself. That is likely why I like him.

But if that fails, it does not mean that he is willing to back a party / tribe who is moving left towards democratic socialist policies.

I am in the same boat, I may think Trump is an immoral, unethical, lying, womanizing, reactive, and somewhat slimy politician. However many of his policies so far have been aligned with mine. Even if I dislike how he goes about it.

1. Cut down on illegal residents coming to, staying and working in the USA.

2. Challenge China policies that have given them unfair advantages. Make US consumers pay more for off shoring work.

3. Reducing the tax burden on US companies and companies that do business here.

4. Reducing regulatory hurdles and costs that dissuade companies from doing business here.

Please remember that I want to support US companies and workers, unlike many liberals who seem to see our businesses and employers as the enemy.

Let's look at a couple of the options:

Elizabeth Warren
EW GovTrack

Bernie Sanders
Bernie Sanders GovTrack

I hope that the DEMs come back to the Center, however I am not holding my breath.

I mean people like Steve Bullock seem DOA.

As does Klobuchar

As for Biden, I just don't think he has it in him at his age. :-(

He is not alone. No president, and perhaps no politician, has ever been as widely ridiculed as Donald Trump. But that has been true for Donald all of his public life. Prior to his trip down the elevator, he was a universal laughing stock. Even now, I find it hard to imagine his supporters, really take the guy seriously. Did they not realize that in the "The Apprentice" , the joke was always on him?

Yeah, I never watched the Apprentice...

I disliked him even back then.
