A Christmas Classic

"Once Upon Impeachment," A Late Show Animated Christmas Classic

A FB friend who apparently does not find Colbert funny made a comment. And while searching I found that hilarious short....  It is funny.  I replied with link and the following comments.
I think you need to lighten up and enjoy the Holiday Season...
Personally I am thinking Colbert is thankful for Trump's Presidency. I mean it helped him to become number one in late night, earned him a new contract and a big raise. :-) Unfortunately my TV is usually off by that time. :-)

Trump has always been a comic figure, a parody of wealth, and an ironic comment on access.

I try to understand other sides of arguments. Like Nick Carraway, I try to put myself in others shoes. I am aware of the perils of projection, and I try not to do it, at least not intentionally. But one thing I have never been sure about is whether Trump's supporters never really understood that the Donald wasn't on the level. That he has always been the target of ridicule, the subject of laughter, and that was true long before Colbert went on the air. Decades before.

You are forgetting that beauty is in the eye of the beholder...

An individual can be both a seriously respected and an extremely ridiculed person at the same time.

I mean the Conservatives ridiculed Obama and Hillary while the Liberals thought they were great.

You may have watched the Apprentice and saw people making fun of Trump. While others saw a wise and experienced CEO who has a sense of humor...

Is that true for Trump? Is he a respected figure? In general, are respected figures ridiculed a lot?

Trump ridicules people a lot because he is bully, but I don't recall that conservatives ridiculed either Hillary or Obama very much. They are serious people who had to be taken seriously. I don't think anyone has ever taken Trump seriously. Am I wrong about that? Did people really believe in "Celebrity Apprentice"? Did they not understand that the program was scripted?

I was always sort of dimly aware of Donald Trump as a businessman. His businesses were, of course, small and his stocks were for the most part, not publicly traded, so in a business sense he didn't matter. But he was in the news a lot mostly for his attraction to what I felt were bad businesses, principally gambling and the casino business. I think these are bad businesses because they don't produce anything of substantive value, they sell the rearranging of money. Gambling is a form of illusory business. That Trump was attracted to this business was back then a very bad sign. What I also thought was that he entered the business very, very late when it had already become oversaturated. Bugsy Siegel, Donald Trump was not. By the time Donald entered the casino business, it had become a de facto pyramid scheme and he was the late stage investor, the one that loses all his money. And he did. With alarming alacrity. In less than two years, all his casinos went bankrupt, and all of his investors lost their money. It's why to this day, Trump can't borrow money from legitimate bankers. This history is well known, even legendary, in the business community.

Did people not know this? Did they not understand that Celebrity Apprentice was a fictional TV show satirizing the pretensions of wealth? Were people not in on the joke?

Of course many people saw Obama and Hillary as bad as Trump. You really need to get out of the city more often. :-)

Did they really? While they have their problems, I don't think anyone thinks that either Hillary or Obamaa have led grossly immoral lives. Hiram

You may be correct with Obama, though "anyone" is never a good word in these discussions.

And I pretty sure there are about 63 million Americans who think Hillary has led a immoral life.

Did they really? And truly?

Why do you think "lock her up" resonated with them so well?

Her actions remind me of Claire Underwood from House of Cards.
