Trump's Alamo

Courts are NOT FOX & Friends...

Trump lies about winning, fraud, stolen elections, etc. And US Judicial system laughs him out of court...

Perhaps he was persuaded to go to court by his attorney Rudy Giuliani, even though Giuliani hasn't seen the inside of a courtroom in decades. Perhaps Trump persuaded himself that he was untouchable even in a courtroom; after all, hadn't he gotten away with tens of thousands of lies?

Whatever the motivation, the litigation strategy has been a predictable disaster because it meant submitting unsupported claims about the 2020 election to courts with zero tolerance for unsupported claims. And no courts have a greater intolerance for such claims than federal courts, where the Trump campaign and its allies filed some of their most sweeping election challenges.

A federal district court should never be confused with "Fox & Friends." Federal judges as a group may be among the most focused, purposeful and substantive public servants in America. They are tough, they have zero tolerance for nonsense and they sometimes sanction lawyers who file lawsuits without a good faith basis.

The sanction risk alone forced Trump's lawyers to cull the fraud claims from their election lawsuits. But the remaining nickel-and-dime allegations of election violations hardly fooled the federal judges (or the state ones). The federal judges demonstrated that, as Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts once said, there are no "Obama judges or Trump judges" but rather an "extraordinary group of dedicated judges doing their level best to do equal right to those appearing before them."

The only thing puzzling is why do so many gullible idiots still believe him. The Justice Dept., the IT Specialists, the FBI, the Secretary of States and the Courts say that 2020 was a very successful free and fair election, and yet they focus on the cult leader instead... It is surreal...

So when it comes to regular people and voters do you still see the people on the left and right as similar to each other in how partisan or extreme they are?

I think something like 80% of republican voters believe Trump and think the election was stolen. I think voters on the left are much more reality based.

I have to agree with you that many folks on the Right seem to have "gone around the bend"... I can not believe how many of them believe in the conspiracy theories. It is very disappointing and frustrating.

As for the Left, I guess we will find out if they get control of the Senate?

The obsession folks on the Left have with LGBT rights, promoting illegal immigration, protesting police, government mandated wealth transfer, climate change, etc still concerns me.

Both sides seem to thrive on promoting fear and moral outrage. Is one better or worse, I do not know.

I think our country is simply worn out. it no longer functions properly when it functions at all. This isn't a recent phenomenon, it's something that has happened steadily over a period of time. It's just in recent years it's become more visible. At the heart of my view on this is that our constitutional system is no longer capable of delivering political legitimacy. Here is today's most recent evidence of that.

I am more upbeat and positive than you... But not by a whole lot.

Cable news and social media where people get to choose their own reality are EVIL... :-(

Joe Biden will be the third president in a row whose legitimacy is denied or at least seriously questioned by one of the two major parties. This despite winning clear majorities in the popular vote and in the electoral college while getting the most votes of any American candidate in history. I don't think the problem is with Fox News or CNN. Clearly, it is our constitution that is failing us. And it's failures are getting worse.

Please explain your rationale.

How would you eliminate these concerns in a country where the population is somewhat evenly split?

If there were a solution, our constitution wouldn't be failing. The inevitablity is what ensures and even defines the decline. And the inherent contradictions. Senators and congress people who deny the validity and legitimacy of elections that not only elected our president but elected themselves. Georgia Republicans are asking a great question. If election don't matter, why should we vote?

What people "say" and reality are often very different...

Liberals said Trump was not the President, yet he was...

Conservatives say Biden is not the President, yet he will be...

The system is working just fine.

It is the incorrectly informed citizens that are the problem.

I think very few liberals said Trump was not the president. Many thought it was unfair that he was, but few denied this reality.

John said...

That is true. Though many were certain that he colluded with Russia, complained about him not having a mandate, etc... 4 years of whining.

It will be interesting to see if GOPers deny that Biden is the President after the swearing in.

Based on my Mom's opinion it does not sound good.

She denies that Biden got 80+ million votes.
She said Trump has ~10 days to get it over turned.

So I asked if she would accept that Biden won after the 10 days...

She said... "Yes, but not fairly..." Arrrggghhh!!!!

How the ‘stolen election’ myth will swallow the GOP

I found this opinion piece very depressing as we contemplate the future of democracy in America.

I guess I would think you would be happy...

I the GOP voters keep acting like crazy people and as long is their Leader, Independents like me will keep voting for Moderate DEMs.

Of course, if the DEMs over reach... Then all bets are off and we go back to the crazy people...
