You Believe What You Read

And "junk food" can be bad for you, so use the following menus to make healthy choices. :-)

Unfortunately 2 of my older conservative friends seem to be making the leap from FOX News to Newsmax. Which to me is a very bad thing... I mean FOX is inaccurate and biased because of the entertainment / opinion shows. (ie Tucker Carlson, Hannity, The Five, etc)  However FOX does have a good News organization. (ie Chris Wallace, Bret Baier, Polling, Election Results, etc) Where as Newsmax is pretty much all opinions all the time.

What I find interesting is that these folks used to tell me about a crazy friend of theirs who in the 70's was a member of the John Birch Society, and now they seem to have joined up also. :-(

Over the weekend, I watched a History Channel documntary on Watergate. One of the things it reminded me is how Nixon et al., blamed the news media for their troubles, claiming bias. Lots of footage of Dan Rather asking Nixon tough questions. I don't know if that was when Republican campaigns against media started, but it certainly is when they picked up speed and became Republican doctrine.

Trump, a product of media, obsessed on the subject. For him, and way too many of his supporters, "fake news" displaced news. For them what media did became by definition, bias. I really hope we move away from that sort of epistmological crisis, and return to thinking of things in a thoughtful, and analytical way. Among other things, we need to understand that just because someone who says something may be accused of bias, doesn't make what that person says untrue.

Not likely as long as Conservative viewers like having their ego's stroked and fears stoked.
