Trump: Avatar of Democracy?

Learn Liberty: Trump the Avatar of Democracy  A co-worker sent me the link and I thought you may find it interesting to consider.  Or to complain about... :-)  Here are some definitions for your convenience.  Thoughts?
Avatar: "a manifestation of a deity or released soul in bodily form on earth; an incarnate divine teacher."
Democracy: "a : government by the people; especially : rule of the majority b : a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections"

Donald Trump lost the popular vote yet won the presidency. That's the second time in this century the popular vote loser won the election Hardly a good sign for democracy.

Now I know that you wish we had a "National Democracy", but we do not...

Trump played by our rules and won the States he needed to...

And as you know, I think that is an excellent for our Democracy. Since it keeps the urban centers from dictating terms to the rest of the country. Both people and region are valued in our system.

Playing by the rules is an argument I have made a number of times myself. It's my response when people say if you don't like tax cuts, why don't you donate money to the government? And it's why, while I think it's fundamentally wrong in a moral and political sense, for popular vote losers to win elections, I do not challenge the legitimacy of either the Bush or Trump presidencies. Ironically, Trump seems to be more unsure about his legitimacy than his political opponents.

The problem is the confusion between policy and it's implementation. The fact that we are now in an era where minority presidents are too frequently elected suggests to us that something is seriously wrong with the creaky system of presidential elections established more than two hundred years ago. The fact is, it worked badly then, and it works even more badly now.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder of course...

I think that very sound and solid system is ensuring that smaller States and communities are not powerless against the bigger states.

Just think how fractured our country would be if the cities could ignore and rule over the rural areas... That would not end well.
